I bought the DVD XCopy Gold version. The DVD Xpress gave me the following error message:

    "Program Error
Epress.EXE has generated errors & will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log being created."

I am running Windows 2000 Pro Service Pack 4. I have checked and the VSO (Patin Couffin Engine) Device is in the device manager. Also, under Drive Select it has recognized my drives. I have uninstalled and re-installed and I am continuing to receive the same message. It starts running Xpress and when it get to about 4% the error message comes up and shuts down the program.

Can anyone provide any direction to correct this problem - thank you.

Well I believe that's the newest version. So when you press start, it will read only to around 4% then you'll get this "Program Error
Epress.EXE has generated errors & will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log being created."

You could try a different patin couffin. Which do you have? Can you post the error log?

Yes, after it has read 4% the error message come up - it should be "Xpress and not Epress

I have tried patin couffin 19 but the error continues. I don't know where the error log is being filed - it doesn't tell me.

Do you think it may make a difference if I try
patin couffin 1.7 instead of 1.9?

There was 7 error logs created - six were blank. One of the logs contained the following:

    Loading Resource
    Loading Controls
    Loading Progress Manager
    Start Looking For a movie
    Drive: 0:1:0 - HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4082B A204 [F] (Ide)
    Drive Index: 0
00406920: New BLANK or ERASABLE DVD media has been inserted - progress is the media change count, starting from 1:
    User agrees
    Found D
    Found Movie: D
    Looking for a movie..
    Found D
    Found Movie: D

That's it. Yes I have a DVD Rom Drive and a DVD Burner.

I'll have a look at the sites that you have suggested. Are you suggesting that I download the product from the sites?

What I've noticed about 321 product is they behave differently on the various pc's. The key (IMO) is trying everything till it works. Sometimes it's a newer version, sometimes an older version, updating ones aspi layer has also helped. I've also read where a different patin couffin layer solved the problem. Again try everything till it works :)

there gotta be more to that error log. In that log it shows no error.

    And yes, download.

I would first try the newer version v3.0.4

That's all there is - no more. I realize thats strange.
Question - do I need to un-install 3.0.2 on my system before installing 3.0.4.

Also, is 3.0.4 a demo version that will work only for a certain trail period? Thanks for helping me with this flip218.

No, install over it. This way it will use the existing activation info.

If you have a valid license, it should be the full version.

should I try un-installing patin couffin 19 and installing 1.7 first or would you suggest I try loading 3.0.4 on top of my 3.0.2 first.

Thanks flip218 - I loaded 3.0.4 and Xpress is now reading a DVD and is at 28% and appears to be working well. Thanks for your help - I spent lots of time last night trying to figure this out without luck. I appreciate you picking up my problem and providing direction to solving the problem - it is very much appreciated. Have a great weekend.

Your welcome. One last suggestion ... Run only your backup software when backing up [bold](Run nothing else ... even internet)[/bold]. Your processor is being worked hard enough when backing up dvd's, this can cause errors. So just a lil rule of thumb ... ONLY BACKUP SOFTWARE :)

Well - I tried to read the DVD with Xcopy Express but it stopped several times before completing - it just locks up.

    I have tried 3.0.1, 3.02 and 3.0.4 Xcopy Gold and with variations of patin-couffin 1.12, 1.17 and 1.19.

It looks like it wants to do something and then it stops. When I try to start it up again I get the same error message that I started with - "Program Error
Xpress.exe has generated errors & will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log being created."

I have no idea where to go from here.

So it's not working?? Well only install v3.0.4 since it's the newest version.

Other things you can try if you haven't already done so:
    1) Make sure your burner is your master drive, and your dvd-rom is the slave.
    2) try updating your aspi layer: http://forceaspi18.w.interia.pl/
