So I've come to the understanding that ixtreme firmware will not boot unstealthed backups while xtreme firmware will. At the moment I have xtreme flashed to my hitachi, but I'm considering going online. I plan on checking all my iso's for stealth using dvd mulleter and will not burn them if they are not stealthed. Is there any advantage to switching to ixtreme?

it's the newest firmware with the latest protection for you. Why not upgrade?

I know, and I probably will update it. What is the difference between the 2x, 5x, 8x, and 12x versions of the firmware?

simple speeds the disc will read at if you want longer load times with a quietter drive, go with a lower X and with u want to keep it how it was stock with quickest load times and loudest sounding drive go with 12x

I believe most people usually go 12x or 8x, but yeah, it's just how fast the disc is read

Yeah, iXtreme is Live safe and your best bet for online gaming... though unfortunately you lose DVD5 support. Quite sad really. Hopefully this will be added back into the fw so we aren't forced to use DVD9s all the time.

    Hitachi never had dvd-5 support.

While it's not a guarantee again banning ix1.4 has other safeguards and fixes besides only booting stealth games. That's the firmware you want if you plan to plan on Live. I doubt there are any xtreme firmware users who regularly play online who haven't been banned yet.

    Ixtreme is your best bet,
" Retail game discs contain 'split' video files which never used to be reproduced properly in backups (as they weren't checked for at the time), after the first banhammer the ixtreme firmware started to emulate the splitvids so it was not required on the disc itself, therefore xdvdm reports discs as 'ixtreme' if they pass all tests whether they are splitvid or not as it assumes you will be using the disc in an ixtreme console flashed console".

Sctrom checks for the splitvid on the disc itself so if you're still using xtreme, firstly - why?, and secondly, make sure your discs pass the schtrom test as xdvdm may say your discs are okay but your firmware is NOT emulating layer 1 so you're NOT safe.

If you have ixtreme then you should be okay with your backups as long as they crc check ok with mulleter, but it wouldn't hurt to splitvid the game with xbc.

find Xenthors Beginners Guide Into Stealth Patching for more info on splitvid and crc checking and check out 360patches.com for more general info on mullter
Heres some links to what I think should answer yours & other ?'s

I have to say I'm a regular firmware user who *knocks on wood* hasn't been banned yet. I don't download any games, I've only backed up games I own that are in my hand (not downloaded). I think that contributes to it. But my drives has been flashed for over a year (would have been more but I got rrod) and I'm still going on live
