Okay I apologize in advance if this is not the appropriate place to post. Just was no sure where to put it. Anyways. I have been looking at these sites for months now, and i do not understand how it is possible to sign up or to get an invite code. How/when do you know if these sites allow signs ups? Also, is anyone a member of one of these sites and wish to share how they became a member? Did you have to exchange your soul for an invite code? Please do share. Thanks very much.
try hanging out in irc channels, either for the servers themselves or gaming/torrent channels. There's also sites forums all over that're focused on invite trading/giveaways...just watch a couple of those
I'm pretty sure this thread isn't allowed, however Xtremespeeds has severely limited invites, and the site is awesome, so people are being pretty stingy with invites. I'm sitting on 6 invites, but now that they don't give them out, I refuse to just give them to anyone, as if you invite a leech, YOU get punished.
Yes, I have heard that you must be very careful who you invite as the you can get banned yourself if you invite ppl who do not seed and only leech. I feel like no one really sends out invites anymore for that very reason. But doesnt that defeat the purpose of these places... Just frustrates me.
On a semi-related note... are there any private sites out there that require a bandwidth qualifying test before you are allowed to join? I really hate it when I connect to a torrent and 75% of the people are downloading/uploading at a slow speed. I can only connect to so many peers before my router takes a dump on me, and I'd rather not waste my time connecting to peers that download from me or upload to me at 10KB/s.
I belong to a smallish private site, and it usually isn't an issue since there are ratio rules. However, it can sometimes be an issue. It'd be nice if there were a site out there that only allowed users with a high-speed (5Mbit and up?) connection to join the site. Of course it could be abused, but at least it would ensure to filter most dial-up people out. Nothing is more annoying than being connected to 70 peers and only uploading at 100KB/s. I always feel like, "WTF? You don't want the file or what?" I've got a 15Mbit connection and I like to use it.
I personally use Blackcats-Games. There are invites available now but you'll have to hop on the IRC and become friendly with the members. You'll also need some experience with other trackers and have a nice ratio.
