I have some good copies of some old B&W movies that have been compressed using Xvid and DivX. The problem is that all frames are rendered too dark and important details are missing. I would like to edit these using Virtualdub or some other application that allows the use of brightness and contrast adjustments and then save the file with approximately the same size as the original. Can someone explain the best way to do this?
Load the file in VirtualDub. Click 'Video' > 'Full Processing Mode' > 'Filters' > 'Add' Choose 'Brightness/Contrast' filter and double click on it. Click 'Show Preview' and adjust to suit.'Ok' 'Ok'. When ready, click 'Video' > 'Compression', select the same compression as the loaded file (DivX, XviD) and 'File' 'Save As'. There are downloads available of DivX and XviD codecs if they are not installed on the PC.
