I got a Digitrex GK4000 dvd/divx player recently. It has trouble playing any Xvid movies without having a slightly miss timed frame rate. It's basically a bit choppy and it is annoying as hell. Everything seems to be on Xvid instead of divx except for anime of course. I cant fix this problem. Why exactly does Divx play perfectly but not Xvid???

Probably because divx and xvid are two different formats, and your dvd player only supports Divx. They are similar which is why you are getting some playback.

Well actually XviD and DivX (5.x) are both ASP ISO MPEG-4 video codecs. If something can play one back it should be able to play the other. The problem however is DivX's certification program, hardware manufactures and the whole using the avi container thing. Really though if it is advertised as a DivX player there is no reason why they should have to support anything else.

Have a look at the properties of the XviD avi's. What framerate? Resolution? Bitrate? Bitstream version? Do they use qpel? GMC? bframes? Are they packed or not? How many consecutive?

Is it really all XviD avi's though?

There are two main reasons for all the XviD stuff.
    1) It is the better codec.
    2) It is free and opensource.
