I have a Yamaha CRW2100e that won't burn. When i try nero, it sees it is there and goes through the process of burning and finishes. Nothing burnt on the cd. When i try the program the burner came with, it says it is not installed right. I have tried everything, updated Firmware 1.0n, ASPI updated, reinstalled drive, unplugged drive, searched far and wide for cure but nothing worked.

I am running Dell Dimension XPS T700r, 384 mb ram, 20GB hardrive and Windows 98SE. _X_X_X_X_X_[small]~One Problem fixed, two more to be worked on~[/small]

What burning software are you using? In the burn process, did you untick "simulate"? Did you disable antivirus when burning?

I am burning on Nero 5.5.10.7. I have unclicked "Simulate" and disabled my Norton antivirus and still nothing.

Try differnet media and a simple program called BurnAtOnce.

    BurnAtOnce: http://www.burnatonce.com/index.html

Also be sure your ASPI layers are updated. Most recommended is ASPI 4.6.

Well, uninstalled all burning programs and then downloaded and installed ASPI 4.6. The Burn At Once program went through the steps, acting like it was burning but nothing written on the disk. Tried it twice, one with Nero and one with Disk At Once, still nothing.

Where in my computer can I find out what my burner is for 100% sure? I know it is the slave under my existing CD-Rom drive. I already have the firmware 1.0n.

According to the information you provided, your Yamaha CRW2100 should be on port 3. Your hd is on port 1 (master or cable select)=primary ide channel, your cd-rom on port 2 (master)=secondary ide channel, and your Yamaha CRW2100 on port 3 (slave)=secondary ide channel. Open MTKFlashWINMode and click ATAPI mode, then click launch ATIPI version. The software will querry your settings and after this you can locate your Yamaha and firmware and flash your drive. BE SURE nothing is in the drive! REBOOT after flashing your Yamy and I hope this solves your problem.

    soccer26,
I provided a direct link to download 3 different firmware(s) for your Yamaha CRW2100e
and your still having problems? Download all three of them to your desktop and try each one and burn a couple of cd's and see how it goes.
The MTKFLASHWin (ide mode) program is very simple to use and you can flash the drive right from your desktop. Try using the latest firmware 1.0n.

the site that you gave me had 3 firmwares on it. The first one led me to a blank page then the last two lead me to the same website, to download firmware 1.0N. I found firmware 1.0H on the internet but still nothing. It can reconize that it is a burner and that there is or not a cd in the drive but doesnt burn when trying to burn. i have tried both IDE and ATAPI modes, nothing changed.
