So I got a problem, presumably with my 120gb's blu-ray laser. Or maybe the blu-ray drive, I'm not sure, that's why I'm posting I get intermittent freezing when running things from a disc (games, netflix, etc), the problem is it's not really a problem. Sometimes it never happens, even after hours of gameplay! This leads me to believe it's a small problem (dirty laser). But when it freezes, the picture stops (once in a while it'll shift 1 frame -> ~0.1fps, haha) but the audio will continue on whatever was loaded at the time of freeze. For example, in Gran Turismo 5, you'll still have a reactive X button to rev your engine, and you'll periodically hear a 'choked' engine sound of a rival racer. Reminds me of a scratched CD in a walkman. This leads me to believe it maybe means a bad blu-ray reader in general. Again, I don't really know enough about the ps3 to identify the problem, and need to know if I should attempt to crack the case and clean it, or send it to sony, or fix it myself? It's out of warranty.
There have been a lot of problems with 3.50 firmware...there might be nothing wrong with your console at all.
Hmm...I don't think so, as this problem has been occurring since before september's firmware release. Any other thoughts?
