I bought 2x 50 cake boxes of ProDisc DVD-R media. After making a handful of backups, I was wondering what some of you consider the best way of labeling your DVD disks? I have one of those Fellowes Neato CD Markers, but I was wondering if it's even safe to use on my particular DVDs. These ProDiscs are the ones with the 'shiny silver matte' finish. The surface of the DVDs have no actual label or brand printed on the top, it's just a shiny surface with a slight texture. I'm also curious about the printable CD / DVD labels you can get at most retail stores. Using my parent's computer + printer, and using their particular label maker, it seemed pretty easy to make them. I know it can be an issue with being off-balance, but the one they have has a small applicator device that insures that it's applied perfectly centered. So, any thoughts or views would be greatly appreciated.
i also stick to the sharpie. i love the smell. mmmmm. if i used my epson r300 to label all my DVD's id be broke.
I can speak from experience about labels on DVDs. I used to label all of mine. They mostly all quit playing right after a few months. Removing the labels fixed the problem. I now use printables and have no problems. My labels were all applied with applicators, but it didn't seem to matter. Some of the labels are very hard to remove (Memorex mostly). Labels have never given me any trouble on CDs, but I try and use printables there also.
I used to use a Sharpie also, until I heard how regular permanent markers can eventually break down the surface of the CD/DVD and cause read errors. I've used the felt tip pen on all my music CDs I've made and it works good on those. Just wan't sure how well the ink would take to the shiny surface of these things.
I too have destroyed dozens of DVDs by labeling them, they might even sometimes work on my own computer, but they didn't work on standalone players anymore. Labels removed, disc works fine, unless it got damaged too badly in the de-labeling process. One the other hand there are many people that label all their discs and have never had a problem, go figure. Well it didn't work for me, tried several labels and applicators, different media, different burning speeds, I even once tried to label the disc prior to burning, but that didn't help either. The sharpie or printable discs are the way to go in my opinion. Have fun guys!

I have been using Memorex covers for my DVDs. The DVDs play in my computer and my friends sylvania srd 2900 fine. What DVD players work best with DVDRS with label covers? What DVD players are yall using with your DVD covers and actually work?
