Any ideas about this error? I've been using Decrypter and its been perfect. I was using Maxell (gold color) and had at least 50 straight perfect burns. The discs I'm using now are Memorex. (silver) and 2 out of 3 so far have failed with this error: I/O ERROR Device [1:00] Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-106D 1:00 (E (ATA) ScsiStatus: 0x02 Interpretation: Check Condition CDB:2A 00 00 00 03 00 00 00 20 00 Interpretation: Write (10)-Sectors: 768-799 SenseArea: 71 00 03 00 00 00 00 0E 00 00 00 00 73 03 00 00 00 00 33 42 10 00 Interpretation: Power Calibration Area Error Reading through the other questions in this forum tend to make me think this is media related. If you think this also,I have another question. Because it's so close I go to Best Buy,when I do,what brand or brands should I be looking for.I thought Memorex was a good choice, but now I'm not so sure. The Maxell sure worked good, but I couldn't find the same kind,so I got the Memorex and now this error.Maybe just a coincidence, then again maybe not. What's your thoughts?
I just put one of these discs in the DVD Identifier program and it says it's a ProDisc.Nothing there about Memorex,I'm confused. Are these things any good?
The 2 brands you mentioned, are they sold under another name? Availiable at a store (Best Buy,Circuit City etc,) or is it better to get them on the internet somewhere? Any suggestions as to where to purchase, keeping in mind I'm in Pennsylvania.
hi sorry i am from united kingdom, but i would agree with an internet site is usually better, and look at the ID codes for buying not brand names too much! GO5 is the dye on ritek, look at/for the dye types...
If you are getting your discs at Best Buy try looking for Fujifilm DVDs that are made in Japan. These should be made by Taiyo Yuden. The ones made in Taiwan are Prodisc or something else. Personally, I've had fairly good luck with Prodisc, but everyone doesn't. I've had bad luck with Prodisc +R, but the -R has been OK for me. If you can get made in Japan Fujifilm you should be OK. Dave
hi yup i have burnt prodisc before no problem, then say 4/5 months later they jump stutter and you cant rip them back either to save your films... so i dumped them with a passion...
I checked on line at a store that is authorized to sell the Ritek.A brand named Imation shows up. Is this what I'm looking for or will the package actually read Ritek on it
I've got Prodiscs a couple of years old that are still fine. I've had branded Riteks that have gone bad in 8 or 9 months. I guess they all have batches that are better or worse. I get the occasional TY that isn't so good also. Those are pretty scarse, though. I only use printables and I guess there could be some difference there. Dave
Imation are very poor, I use Ritek without any problems. The main thing is get a genuine supplier, most the salemen behind the counter will say anything they've got is good. check out the media forum, there's some links in there for genuine US dealers. gringle
Thanks to everyone who helped me.I can't get over the fact I bought Memorex discs that turned out to be junk.I guess like a book, you can't judge a disc by its cover.I've already placed an order for some Ritek discs to try. It's like when you go grocery shopping and you carefully read the labels of the food you buy.I know now you should do the same thing when shopping for discs.
Yes, memorex is one of, if not the worst brand name media there is. Do a search on memorex and you'll see all the bad reviews. If you want a sure thing I recommend verbatum datalifeplus or genuine taiyo yuden. If you want to buy locally I recommend verbatum (make sure it says AZO dye on package), maxell, fuji (made in japan), or sony. Some good online stores are: newegg, meritline, rima, and supermediastore. Be leary of shop4tech as they have been known to sell some fake TY's. Mort
