That is a Roxio driver, it can conflict with Nero. You should fully uninstall Roxio (if it is installed) and then run this program:
    http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/Roxio-Zap.shtml

The drive it is showing DMA both on/off for is your HDD, not your DVD drive, so you can ignore it (sorry aldan).

    This is your problem:

You are using MCC003 media which is 16x rated. Your DVD burner is only rated to burn media of speeds up to 8x. Unfortunately there are no firmware updates available for your drive. This means you aren't going to get good results burning unsupported media (like you're experiencing).

Ok,did manage to uninstall ROXIO.But soemthing strange happen.Had a DVD with soem files.Put in into the writer(laptop),and open NERO.It did,nt show the files thats already on the disk, and its not REWRITABLES.I thought ok,lets see what happen if i add another file.It did burn it,but in the process, somehow, wipe all the other files form the disk.If it was a rewritable,i can understand, but how is it possible otherwise.

    Thanxs

If a disc isn't finalised then you should be able to add more data to it (in some circumstances) but not rewrite the existing data unless it is a -RW disc.

I have a feeling it is something you are doing/not understanding correctly. Put the disc in your drive, and run this program:
    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cd_dvd/dvd_tools/nero_cd_speed.cfm

Tell me what it says on disc info tab.

Regardless, I've told you what your problem is. Buy some discs that are rated at 8x so your burner is likely to recognise them and successfully burn to them, or buy an external DVD drive so that you can burn higher rated media.

    Hi,
I Cut lots of CD,S/DVD,s.Its the second time in some years i came across somehting like this.I agree, and logic tells me,that its impossible to wipe data froma standard dvd,but it happened.I tested the writer again, and it worked. How it manage to wipe data off a DVD,that i added already lots of files successfull,is MYSTERY TO ME,but its always nice to KNOW,WHAT WENT WRONG.Will however follow your instrcutuons, and lets get to the bottom of the story.Thanxs so far for your help.I really appreciated it.

Well if you post the media info of the disc in question, it might help me to understand what exactly happened.

By rights nero should show the older files that were written, they will be sort of grayed out compared to the latest file you just attempted to burn, you should've got a popup stating "the previous files will be blah blah & still accessible do you want to continue" unless you ignored message & closed it before reading, you should be able to view all files in explorer has been my experience,i recall an incorrect setting is why that happens

Well, thahs what i normally get.In this case, allthough i knew, there was files on the disc, nero showed a empty disk.I took it out, reload, and open again,Same thing. Then i thought,ok,nothing bad can happen to the older files,so i tsted it to see what will happen.Well,in short,SOMEHOW,taht files got wiped off. How,i do not knbow, and thats what i wanna find out.How is that possible. And hwat to do,to prevent that from happening again.

Yeah this means the disc hasn't been finalised. I've not done any multi-session burning, so I don't know why you're experiencing what you are. It sounds as if Nero isn't seeing the files from the first burn session - are they visible in Windows Explorer?

I have no idea why/how previously burned files were "wiped off" the disc, they should absolutely be there 'physically' speaking anyway.

You're also using quite an old version of Nero - have you tried IMGBurn?

The only time i've seen mention of a file being wiped so to speak is when it was edited then saved tho that was a text type doc

disk now has 2 sessions burned on it.. first session is now not accessible by any normal means ("start new session" rather than "continue existing session" has been selected and warning about this situation has been ignored!!)

isobister or similar "should" be able to get at the previous session data..

there you go guys.. simple when you remember nero4 and incd packet multisession burning..

My problem with Nero 8 is burning files from an image. I think what's happening is at the point
mentioned in the manual to Select the recorder you want from the Current Recorder
drop down menu, I can't select the correct recorder because I burn the image to
the cd. I can live with saving an image but burning the files from the image
doesn't happen. My OS is windows XP Professional service pack 2.

If it's a DVD image, I think ImgBurn will burn it (if it's a music CD, it wont').
