VLC Player (*.avi) Choppy and 100% CPU usage

#1 25 Jul 2011 @ 21:57
Hi,

I have this problem, after I reinstalled my WinXP SP3. My VLC player plays *.avi very jerky and choppy. CPU shoots up to 100%. However when i use the WMP9 to play the same avi, WMP9 works.

1. I reinstalled WinXP SP3. All drivers are in and working. Installed codec packs, DirectX and etc.

2. I installed VLC 1.1.11(latest). Plays avi(s) but very very choppily and jerky. Tried DMA, buffer 5000msec. Did not work. CPU is 100% and system slows down.

3. WMP9 plays avi(s) fine.

4. This was working before the crash.

Not sure what is the problem. Anyone can help?

How Much Memory Do You Have?
You're Still Running XP (Leads Me to Believe You Have An Old System)

I Suggest You Upgrade Your Memory Or Just Buy a New Computer.

the only answer provided here is quit irrelevant. as the first person said, the error occurred not before the crash but after it.

i have exactly the same problem except i moved from a week computer to a stronger. all suddenly my vlc was useless due lag and cpu hogging.

so what if you're running windows xp, movies floated fine on xp to.
