I have a problem where the quality of my video decreases DRAMATICALLY when I format it for youtube through iMovie. I hacked an iMovie template to use a custom border. The videos load into iMovie fine and the border looks good.

When I export the video to a proper size for YouTube, either the resolution on the border gets bad or the video gets bad. I can't seem to figure this out. Any suggestions?

Old post, but i'll add the info.

iMovie has the safe screen feature. If you use it you'll know what mat be lost on screen. Youtube uploads seems to always go in medium resolution, like 480 res. What I recommend is to do you work in iMovis and save the file. The nopen the .MOV file in the imovie folder you saved it in and use Mpeg Streamclip [free]. you can convert to MP4 in whatever settings you choose and then upload it manually through youtube.

    Cheers!
