what dvd-s2 TV card for MCE?

#1 30 Jan 2010 @ 4:59
Hi all,

After accepting I cannot have NTL in my media center PC (see http://forums.afterdawn.com/t.cfm/f-59/w...h_cam-832217/), I have decided to have sat TV on my PC.

The card I want to buy should be:

* dvd s2/HD ready: even though still sat are emitting in DVD s1 and not s2, I want to be ready for the future change
* MCE compatible
* low latency in changing channels

So far, this is the short list I have compiled:
Pinnacle TV cards: I went to the pinnacle website and they do not seem to sell TV cards anymore. Am I right? That could be a problem for future support?

Terratec Tv cards (only 81e) http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=342676. However, whether this card is compatible with MCE is not clear to me.

Hauppage winTV NOVA HD S2. However, hauppage cards have the reputation of being quite slow in changing channels.

What is your experience using these cards? Any other card I am forgetting?

Thanks

hi,

No, apparently it will not work because NTL locks the CAM to the box. (see http://forums.afterdawn.com/t.cfm/f-59/w...h_cam-832217/)
Thus, you can not use the NTL CAM with a non NTL device.

This explains why I want to get a satellite card instead

It is possible to connect NTL box to PC via an analog capture card. I have also done it in the past with an analog haupagge card and then an IR blaster to command the box.
Is this what you are talking about?

What I was looking for was not using an NTL box at all, and have the licit NTL CAM as part of a dvb-c card. Unfortunately, NTL does not work with this setup.

What configuaration were you talking about?

No problem. you were just trying to help

Hopefully, NTL will change their attitude in the future and will allow dvb-c cards to legally decode their tv signal.
In the meantime, I want to get a good sat card

cheers

Before buying, does anybody have any experience with TBS products? Latency, realibility..
