HP Pavilion-dv4-1428dx optical drive won't read cd/dvd

My laptop won't read cd/dvd's and I can't figure out why. I have gone into the the device manager and it says that the device is running properly. I have also uninstalled the drive, shut down and restarted the computer so it reloaded the drive and drivers, but it still won't read cd/dvds. Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.
