Gotcha. Well, no biggy. I can't really think of any games I had an overwhelming need to play online anyway. And the trade off (particularly being able to play emulators with huge selectsion of games) more than makes up for it. If, later on, I decide that I absolutely MUST have live, used xboxes are $49.99 at game stop.

    Thanks for the help!

Well you can always just keep your original hdd and remove to softmod from that and just connect that one to your xbox when you want to play on live i think someone actually made a tutorial for that too

    Here i found it
    Here is the link: XBOX100.com
its almost all the way at the bottom, but here is the text

    Installing multiple drives:
An xbox motherboard will only recognize one hard drive. Therefore, you can install more than one hard drive in an xbox, you just cannot have more than one running at a time. This is fairly easy, space is your biggest issue. Some people add external drives, or rearrange the inside of their xbox to make room for a 2nd drive, but I installed a 2nd drive in one of my boxes when the dvd crapped out. I pulled out the dvd drive, hot-glued the faceplate in place, and stuck an extra drive in there. No matter where you put it, the wiring is the same. Hook the ide cable to all the drives. In my case this was easy, I plugged it in where the dvd used to be. If you're using the dvd plus 2 drives, you will need to get a 3 plug ide cable, or add a plug to one. You will need to put a switch in the power lines to determine which drive gets power. Use a DPDT switch, that means Double Pole, Double Throw. In simple English, it has an up position and a down position, and it switches two wires at once. It should have 6 posts on the back, and preferably no center (off) position. To wire in the switch, follow these steps:

    1. Split the two black wires from the harness directly to both drives.
    2. Connect (solder) the yellow and red wires from the harness to the CENTER posts on the switch.
    3. Connect the LEFT two posts to the yellow and red for drive1, keeping the yellow and red on the same sides as the center posts.
    4. Connect the RIGHT two posts to the yellow and red for drive2.

Now when you flip the switch left and boot the xbox, it should run drive1, and (power off the xbox first!!!) after you flip the switch right and boot, it should run drive2. You will have to install your dashboard, apps, etc on both drives, but it's worth it.

I've posted my concerns and made a thread about it, but no one seems to confirm or alleviate my worries. I have a brand new unformatted 500GB drive, still in its shrink wrap. I have a softmodded xbox. I would like to know is If i can prepare the drive using xboxhdm and let the program create the F:/ partition. I know how to make drives, but I haven't gone over the 320GB mark before, so I'm worried about data corruption.

Is it possible for the XBpartitioner to format F:/ and G:/ to 32K clusters while the drive is running softmodded? I heard that it must be formatted before I attempt to softmod.

Your responses will be of great help. I bought my drive 2 weeks ago, I haven't opened the box because I haven't received a response from someone who can explain what it is i need to do. Thanks.

I bought it from Amazon.com $79.99 free shipping, Western Digital. Get your hands on one before they sell out. Now a days is real tough finding an EIDE drive since SATA has taken over.

Thanks, I did try the links, but the one I found on xbox-scene.com really helped. I'm preparing my lunix iso right now. I'll have it installed and formatted by using XBpartitioner. I thought i could only use xbpartitioner by using a modchip, but the program works just the same under a softmod.

I've made drives in the past, but I've never gone the past 320GB. The 500GB that one of boxes currently has was formatted using a modchip I borrowed from a friend.

This time I be formatting while running a softmod.

I used XBpartitioner. It worked like a charm! I joined F and G and formatted the whole drive using 32K. I removed the drive from my xbox, hooked it to my computer, unlocked it, and used Xplorer360 to transfer all of my xbox backups, videos, dvds, pics, music and nearly filled the F partition reached 460GB with 9GB remaining. Relocked it and placed it in my box. I will closely observe it for couple of days but I'm most certain that my drive will not suffer from data corruption because I formatted it using 32K clusters.

I've been on this thread for awhile and just want to say that it's been alot of fun helping other people hack their xboxes. I've not been as active as I have been in the past but needless to say, my xbox hacking days are far from over!!

Recently, I finished helping a friend rebuild his xbox into a monster badass machine! We'd first hacked in a 500 gb drive but he wanted more so we overhauled it baby! Mod-chip, an extra 64 mb ram, DVD+-RW and an LCD panel that he wants to mold into the front of the machine (currently just taped and cut to fit). That extra ram really helps xbox linux immensely!!

Anywhoo, it's thanks to this forum and others like it that I was able to aquire the knowledge to apply such feats of engineering to an otherwise forgotten piece of hardware!

    Thanks alot afterdawn crew!!

hey everyone. I am sorry tobring this post back up but i had a question about using xboxhdm . When i make a copy of the C and E drives, and place them in the C and E folder, should I have a C containing all the files in the C folder, or just the C folder containing the files. C inside of C like X:\XBOX stuff\programs for PC\xboxhdm\linux\C\C\(contents here) or should it be X:\XBOX stuff\programs for PC\xboxhdm\linux\C\(contents here) ? Because when i drag and drop both drives, it sets it up with a C folder inside of the C and E folder inside of the E . I hope i didn't confuse you too much. Thank you in advance! I want to put a 500gb in the xbox in the next 2 days.

You want to put the contents of C: in C folder, so when you go into linux/C you'll see the files instead of another folder.

hey thanks! yeah when i opened the C folder, it had another C folder inside of it. it did that because i dragged and dropped C: from the ftp program onto the C folder in linux. Thanks again!!
