    I have had a problem installing xp pro for quite a few days now. I have a backup of the files on my computer. Everything that was on the xp cd is on my computer. My xp cd cracked (dont ask how) and so i need to create an installation cd for xp. I need a guide or something on how to do this because the few that i tried to use all failed me. My method was to burn the files using PowerISO and then try to install xp (on another computer for testing). But it didnt work. The xp cd just wouldn't run on the computer. Does anyone know were i can find a guide that shows Step by Step how to install xp using the files. Or it might be the files i have. Where can i find proper files for xp?

    I have been doing this, the only different thing i see here is the image they use. Could someone direct me or send me the image you are supposed to use for the boot part.
    BTw thanks for the guide it confirmed what i was doing.
    And one other thing, does it make a difference if i use a Cd-RW instead of CD-R

    Heres more info on where to get the "boot" section you need. You can use the cd-rw for the test runs, but for the actual cd you plan to use and store somewhere use a cd (write-once) those last the longest.

    A good program to have to test your cd's is the free virtualbox. It's a small program that lets you create a virtual computer. You can install windows in the virtualbox to make sure it works. If you make an ISO, you can even use daemon tools to mount that ISO and virtualbox will open the ISO and install windows (no need to burn test cd's).

    I purchased a second hand laptop from my company with HD formatted.
    I loaded Win XP Pro using a friends disk. All loaded OK.
    However I cannot connect to the internet via broadband as the RJ45 port is inactive.
    When I go into control panel / system / hardware / device manager I see no drivers installed for following:
    * Ethernet controller
    * mass Storage
    * Multi Media Audio Centre
    * Network controller
    ... etc ..

    I tried to install drivers usinf Win XP Disk - but software not available on disk.

    Can anyone help?

    Many Thanks,
    Joe 90.
    Dublin.

    You need to go to the manufacturer's website for your laptop and download the drivers. Obviously, you'll have to do this from a different computer since the network doesn't currently work on the laptop. After you have the files, save them to a USB flash drive or burn them to a CD and then you can install them on your laptop. If you need help finding the drivers, let us know what brand and model the laptop is and we'll help point you in the right direction.

    Got that. Many thanks.
    I am a newbie and did not realise that multiple posting was against the rules. Also didnt expect that users would be reading so many different threads.
