I purchased a 2nd hand laptop (HP4200) from my company with HD formatted. I loaded Win XP Pro using a friends disk. All loaded OK. However I cannot connect to the internet via broadband as the RJ45 port (and probably COM 1) is inactive. No ethernet driver = no connectivity. When I go into control panel / system / hardware / device manager I see no drivers installed for following: * Ethernet controller * mass Storage * Multi Media Audio Centre * Network controller ... etc .. I tried to install drivers using Win XP Disk - but software not available on disk. Can anyone help? Where could I get required software. Many Thanks, Joe 90. Dublin.
Ta Alden, Tried all that. Doesn't work. Then called BT who advd that I need a driver for port apparently. Any other ideas ? Brgds, Joe.
You need to install the network driver from HP's website. http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=321957&prodSeriesId=447354&prodNameId=447355&swEnvOID=1093&swLang=8&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=ob-49200-1 Once you get the network working on your laptop, go back to HP's website and update the rest of the drivers as well. http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=447355&prodTypeId=321957&prodSeriesId=447354&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=1093 Also, you'll get a quicker/friendlier response if you don't post the same question several times. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/718326 http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/733433
