I'm a total beginner when it comes to this r4 business. Bought one with a 4gb kingston microsdhc card. followed what people have said...downloading kernel....after kernel.....and doing exactly what other people have done...and my r4card will not work....just the damned red'Menu' on the top screen. Can you please help, its so frustrating!!
ps I know nothing in computer jargon...so any help in simple terms would be greatly appreciated. My email is *removed*

Hi and welcome to our humble abode. However email addresses aren't allowed so i've removed it, and the Forum Rules are in my signature.

Puggwash tend to post in this thread ~ http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/725065 though the red menu icon isn't discussed in there, however this does seem to be down to using the wrong firmware.
    Examples ~

Where did you you but the R4 ?, as that'll help us to help you find the right firmware. Installing it is dead easy, example links for that ~

i think this maybe due to overloading your sd card, leave some slack space,on 2 gig card you only really get 1.83 gig, so fill it only to 1.65 max

I concur, the red menu usually means a bad firmware or mismatched version, get the links from the official pages.
