I just tried the TDK DVD+R's and I'm still getting the error. What should I do next?

    Hi,

It appears your burn is failing four seconds into the lead-in which oftentimes means it's either low quality media issue, burner incompatibility due to an out of date firmware or a combination of both.

Did your NEC come with a Dell? Judging by the firmware revision listed in Decrypter's log your firmware is about two revisions behind. Firmware is important since the new versions improve media compatibility and write performance.

I suspect the Memorex +R you're using are made by RICOHJPN but in order to make sure could you run both the Memorex and TDK discs through DVD Identifier and let us know the media ID for them?

I got this for both the memorex and TDK +R disc's when I ran DVD identifier. DMA is enabled for my drive. The NEC did come with a dell, but i took it from my friend and put it in my computer which has a intel pentium 4 2.40GHz 512 MB of RAM and a NTFS file system with windows XP pro.

I installed the ForceASPI 1.8 and it's still giving me the same error. But sometimes I'm getting the error about Power calibration.

    i'm using dvddecrypter 3.2.3.0. trying to copy a dvd to the HD. i'm having a problem like grandcd01. except that instead of Interpertation: Write(10) - Sectors: 0 - 15. i got Interpretation: Read (10) - Sector 1193664.

the complete error message is this

    I/O Error!

    Device [1:0:0] SONY DVD-ROM DDU1621 S2.9(E:)

    ScsiStatus: 0x02
    Interpretation: Check condition

    CDB: 28 00 00 12 36 C1 00 00 01 00
    Interpretation: Read (10) - Sector 1193664

    Sense Area: 70 00 05 00 00 00 00 0A 00 00 00 00 64 00 00 00 00 00

Interpretation: Illegal Mode for this Track

in the bottom of the screen, there is a exclamation point in a yellow triangle followed by Failed to Read Sector 1193664 - Illegal Mode for this Track.

if i click Ignore, then the some message will pop up, except the number is different. 1193665, 1193666, 1193667.

i got the ASPI 4.71.2. i went to Tools/ Settings/ I/O and changed the Interface from SPTI to ASPI. dvddecrypter detect that i have aspi 4.71.2 but said that "No devices detected"

Power Calibration Error - that is a good sign that the media is at fault - it's either poor media or incompatible.

There was a post above remarking on your Firmware - updating that can sort that problem. It's also good to keep the firmware up to date anyway.

Be careful when flashing it - make sure you have the correct one before you do it. Check and double check.

This for NEC burners - unless someone has a better place to get them from. You need to match your Drive to the correct Firware. Download and extract the files to a folder on the Desktop. Run the little utility and away you go.

NOTE: If you mess it up - something goes wrong etc etc the Drive could end up with permanent damage. I don't really know what policy is on this board as far as telling people to flash drives - You may be better to wait and see what someone with a bit more status on this board says. I wouldn't want you to kill the drive on my say so.

Maybe someone can write you a really simple step by step on flashing an NEC drive.
