Do you guys know of software that can determine the compression type, and encoded type of a file. I just aquired a avi file, which i thought was divx. Since its not playing in my divx/dvd player...i wanted to confirm if it was divx or not. any help would be great, thanks.
i found gspot - and it says its an xvid - but i thought my player was able to play xvid - philips divx player.
xvid is a different codec that divx. you can play the xvid movie on your computer by d/l the xvid software from http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/codecs_and_filters/xvid.cfm
yeah, i was able to play the file on the computer. I'm familiar with xvid, i was wondering why the DIVX/XVid player didnt pick up the file, and thats cause the file was in a different format - not divx or xvid. once i re encoded with divx - its money. Thanks.
