    Hi all,

I have a Samsung 16X dual layer, and this was burning fin at 8X until a few disks ago. It now fails at 37% on each 8X disk, but burns fine on 4X.

This dies on both DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink, so I'm guessing it's not a Nero/ DVD Shrink problem??

Error thrown below: is this a buffer underrun or something?

Burning dvds at 8X is not a good idea. Too many chances of burn errors. Most members suggest 4X max for dvd backups. If you must burn a 8X you need very good blank media. The cheap stuff won't work right.

I would try a different batch of media as there maybe a slight fault on the media your using. This may be causing the disc to error out when burning at a higher speed. If the new media burn ok at 8 speed then you could just finish of the old batch burning them at 4 speed.

    Thanks for the advice guys.
Upon further investigation this looks like a problem with the Nero-supplied WNASPI32.DLL. It seems to have a problem with buffer underruns and supplying data quick enough to the burner at 8x. A pity, it seemed to work okay for 2/8 burns.
When viewing the buffer status during a burn at 8x it ofter gets to 0% full and then sometimes comes back to finish the burn.

Will stick to 4x for now.
