I'm pretty sure MOST dvd players will not play RW media. You need to burn to a -R. That should do the trick.

I just got external Lacie D2, and I have tested it with
DVD-RWs. They play fine in my DVD-player (it´s
older model btw, but even back then I checked, that it
supported CD/DVD-/+R/RW), which is very good
thing. Now I can test different stuff, and not worry so
    much about coasters.

I kinda disagree with Mediaguru ( ;) ) about DVD-
players (stand-alone). At least in the Europe, if you
look at the specs, most newer DVD-players (even the
cheaper ones) support DVD-/+R & RW (same with
CDs). Most also support digital pictures.

So check the manual of you DVD-player, and see
what formats it supports. It may be, that your DVD-
player doesn´t support DVD-RW (if that´s the case,
you may want to upgrade your DVD-player).

    Also, use "good" DVD-R/RW media.

Newer players may play RW's but I know all of mine won't.

Playability issues are 75% media and 25% burned wrong.

    sarahvita, c´mon:

"You can use DVD Player to play it directly from your hard drive by going to the 'File' menu, selecting 'Open VIDEO_TS Folder', navigating to the VIDEO_TS folder (the VIDEO_TS folder itself, not the contents or the dvd folder) MTR saved to your HD, and hit the 'choose' button. Then, you can hit 'play' and the DVD will play from your HD.
Alternatively, there is a new program called Matinee which can easily play back VIDEO_TS folders from your hard drive for you."

Yea try that. That will at least tell you if the error is in the rip or the burn.

no the video_ts folder does not play in the DVD player. I says the media type has encountered an error or something like that. I tried to just open the file and it plays the directors comments behind the movie selection. nothing else not even a menu.. is thie a trick to getting a menu? or how about i just back up and try to get the movie on there... hmmm

does that mean it was a problem with the burn? i wondered if that would happen because the first time i tried it wouldnt burn . Roxio wouldnt recognize the media. should i do it all over again or can you tell what went wrong from what happened?
