Hi everybody. I was wondering if anybody know of good wesites where region Free firmware can be found? All the usual ones like wormintheapple and rpc1 are down and all the others link to these sites.

Basically I'm looking for something that will make a powerbook G4 with a Matshita DVD-R UJ-815 with firmware version DWD0 region free. It's for my dad who travels a lot and is getting close to his 5 change limit.

Any help in this matter would be much appriciated. Thanks. Doug

    I found this on
    http://macforum.torrentskickass.com/viewtopic.php?t=28934&highlight=region+free+dvd

You can unlock your drive even it has 5 switches.
    1. You need to know model of your drive
    2. Then go to Firmware search (www.rpc1.org ,this site is not down)
    3. Download it
    4. Pacth your DVD according instructions in firmware
    5. Reboot
    6. Check that all is ok by Region display utility
    7. Enjoy

Then you can use Region X to make it region free so you can unlimited change your region.

I never tried it but it should work.

If you don't like all this stuff you can simply use VLC to play any region dvd. Just go to systempreferences,cd's and dvd's and set video-dvd on ignore. Insert the dvd, open VLC, select play, then select disk and thats it.
