Hey j_holmes

Not that I have ever heard of. I know you can get programs that will make your downloads faster, but nothing else comes to mind.

Because it is the area that you are in and the modem that you are using which determines how fast/slow you are connecting too, well for obvious reasons.

But if I find something, I will let you know.

BTW, curious as to find out why you would want more bandwidth...games, downloading?

Sounds like a dangerous subject.

From one site.
Quote:
The phrase "uncapping" refers to the method of increasing the amount of bandwidth assigned to a cable modem by an Internet Service Provider. If a cable modem is assigned more bandwidth then it receives a proportional speed enhancement across all aspects of the Internet.

Be aware that cable modem uncapping is considered as theft and can lead to very serious consequences. Your ISP will detect your uncapping and will take action.
In other words, it can be done but your ISP will catch you and you will lose your Internet service and may be sued or arrested.

For your educational reading (Only) pleasure.

I couldn't agree with you more...

That is why they set your upload/download limit with the area you are in.

Because if they catch you...you break the EULA and if you do that then...well, let's hope you don't find out.

BTW...Veblin, thanks for the informational links. Very good reading.

I would not try to uncap your cable modem. I work for a cable company in the northeast. They would see a spike of activity come out of the modem. They would shut you down pretty fast.
