I use DVDBackup to take the movie out of the DVD onto my HD, but I only have a CD-RW Drive, so how do I break the movies into parts, and put them on CD-Rs, or "VCDs"??
well when i was doing it I converted the m2v to quicktime and the ac3 to aiff. after that I joined the aiff file to the mov (quicktime pro) and then used toast to create a vcd image. damn it took a while! i bought a superdrive in the end, so much less pain!
OK I'l keep it brief osex for extraction -select the movie from the title pull-down -select all chapters (unless you don't want credits etc..) -deselect extra audio tracks (ie foreign language, directors comments etc.) -select elementary streams from the fmt pulldown. (this splits the audio and video) -select title or chapter from the seg pulldown (title creates one M2V file chapter breaks them up) thats your call, while learning (like me ) chapters may be better but I've done title a few times. -press begin, select destination and begin, make sure you've got plenty of room. I work on a 40 gig partition. mac3dec for audio extraction -export your ac3 as mp3 or aiff, for some reason i've been using aiff but that doesn't make a lot of sense.... anyway this step is easy. to convert the video I used media pipe and the 3ivx codec In media pipe choose: >file browser >file streamer >MPEG decoder >colour conversion >crop >deinterlacer (if necessary) >scaler >Quicktime encoder >Quicktime muxer in the 3ivx compression settings make sure the quality is between high and highest. to recode the sound and video use quicktime pro -copy the audio and video files to a new quicktime movie and save, the sound should be the same length as the video clip. -if not you may choose to "add scaled" from the edit pulldown. -make sure you save your movie as "stand alone" after all this i dragged my finished mov file to toast to convert to vcd. if i remember correctly about 1gig of mov
...1gig of mov will convert to under 700meg as a vcd file... you can also convert divx to vcd for home player use too... have fun and don't be afraid to ask
what's osex extraction and where do you get it? what's mac3dec and where do you get it? what's media pipe and 3ivx codec and where do i get 'em?

Ok 3ivx is a codec so when you get an option for the export format you want to choose 3ivx. It should be a pull down that defaults as "video". This should happen after you've set up media pipe (compression choice) I can't be much more specific, it's been a while! as for media pipe you are correct, however once you select file browser the next selection on the list should become available, so when you scroll through the list different choices become available depending on the prior choices. hopefully if you try again it will be sweet. give it a bash and if it doesn't work i'll find a good web tutorial for you
Alright, everything was working until during the conversion from ac3 to aiff (because i dunno how to do ac3 to mp3) it stopped when almost 80 percent done! argh! it wont ever complete... this is frustrating, i just wish you had an AIM or AOL account...
first thing would be to check your disc space sorry never had trouble with mac3dec Oh and sorry I used to be on icq a lot but don't bother much now cause i've got random computing habits, i think they call it chaos
