Ripped/compressed/burned DVD will play on computer but not on regular DVD player

ripped with mtr, compressed with dvd2onez,burned with titanium, works perfectly on the mac dvd player or from the plextor burner/player, but won't play on a regular dvd player hooked to a tv..how's that possible??!!

 

your dvd player may not support that format. sometimes its the media itself. what model dvd player is this?

 

Also, what kind of media did you use? (+ or - R)

 

and (-) is more compatible with the older players.

 

sounds like a media or burn speed issue.

I don't know what kind of dvd player (but probably one thats a few yrs old), send a dvd I burned to my kid and he could only play it on his laptop, not the dvd player. BUT, as for the other questions: am burning on the lowest speed possible since my plextor isn't happy with the media, according to the plextor folk. its memorex +RW.
So I should try - instead? does the burn speed matter?

 

ok.. few questions..

how did you burn it with toast? did you do that "UDF" format?
if you used the video tab.. that's when you have video files.

that's how you burn it.


1. burn speed does matter. with high burn speeds it lowers the compatibility with some dvd players. so that's why they may not play.


2. media - you dont wanna use memorex.
try out different media. i'm not exactly sure what media that drive likes. try different media.

I burn just as you ..quoted..except I haven't added the audio files,but I will from now on, can't hurt. Seems the media must be a serious issue, am suprised to learn that. plextor recommends maxell and verbatim.

Sorry for barging into this thread but I've been having a similar problem with burning DVDs from EyeTv imported programmes. I've some older ones that are in Mpeg1 format, newer ones from newer EyeTV box are in Mpeg2. I've tried following the instructions in the EyeTv manual, which works for the newer Mpeg2 files but not the older ones. I've also post-processed with ffmegX or DVD2oneX. Both produce VIDEO_TS (and AUDIO_TS files). They play on the G4 MDD but often not on my elderly Sharp portable DVD player. I've read the posts in this thread and it may be 'cause I've been using some DVD+media (TDK which works as a brand on my player in general), or it may be due to choosing 4x or Best as speed in Toast 6x. I'll try the suggestions to use DVD- media and burn more slowly. With the 3rd party sw I've followed the advice given by another poster, while with EyeTV after exporting the original Mpeg1 file to a format suitable for DVD the EyeTv instructions say to open in Toast Video pane and burn from there, which causes Toast to encode the file before burning. This did work, as I mentioned above, with the Mpeg2 files, but not with the Mpeg1 files.

But I've also been thinking of purchasing a new (fairly inexpensive) DVD player and was wondering which brands/models - among those available in Europe, as I live in France - are most compatible with home-burned DVDs. Any suggestions would be welcome.

i'm not sure on what to do on that one. with the burning on the discs.

as far as the dvd players go... most of the newer ones to play most formats of media... again... same as the actual burning, not all players and drives like all brand media... just check with manafacturer of the dvd player and see if there's a specific brand. just stay away from memorex and other cheap media.

 

I'm having this same problem. I burned the disk with Toast 6 as per the instructions and the DVD plays fine in all my computers just not in my DVD Player which is a Sony 5 disk changer that is only about a year old -- I can't recall the model number off hand. I also tried it in my PS2 and no joy.

I burnt at 1x -- the slowest possible. I I'm using a (-) burner with Maxell media.

A friend gave me the DVD files -- I'm not sure if they are region encoded or not nor do I know if that matters for that matter.

Would it help for me to test my setup by burning a sample DVD with iDVD to rule out media/burner/player incompatibility issues?

What else should I try?

maxell is actually one the better media.. i just got some and they work fine.
what burner are you using?
i have an older ps2 and (-) play fine..
check with idvd how it runs on that.

I just though I might have to set (or unset) region encoding but a friend already hipped me to the fact that that shouldn't be the problem.

hi thelox714 you seem to be a good fellow...i have a question...i want to burn a downloaded DVD movie...but when i burned it and put it in the DVD player it didn't work...i have a philips...quite New actually..can anybody help

 

dont download movies... its illegal... that's all i'm going to say
