Let me first start off by asking, is anyone sick of the wait time to rip/shrink/burn with Mac? Don't get me wrong, all the programs we use produce a great product, but I look at my friends with a PC and they're doing the same thing in like 15-20mins. Anyone hear of anything new on the horizon?
15-20 minutes to rip, compress, and burn? i have used the pc software before and there was no difference in time. i guess they got it of the black market. lol. and no there is no new stuff out yet. mactheripper is now @ 2.6.6, and toast is @ version 6.1 but that is it.
I can rip a dvd with certain drives in 8-15 minutes. I can compress with my dual g5 2.0 in 4-12 minutes. It's not that bad.
i dont mind the speed.. i'm only on a mac mini at 1.42.. with the upgraded ram. ripping and compressing dont take all that long. i used to have a "wonderful little dell thing", note the scarcasm... and that thing took forever and the quality was nowhere near what it is on my mac... i am a recent return customer to the mac world.. i bought one of the first imac g3's with the 333mhz speed. i loved it then and i still have it.. its on OS9 but it works. my new one is on tiger and i'm loving it. so.... if it aint broke.. dont try to fix it..
i'm thinking of getting a mac mini now that the ram is 512 on all stock mini's. however, this thread is making me worry. i have a pc which has it's problems like I get a blue screen whenever I do video encoding for more than an hour as well as other stupid glitches. But the one thing I can do is backup a movie in 15-20 minutes with clonedvd, anydvd, an unlocked liteon dvd-rom, and 16x burner. How long does it take to backup a dvd with a 1.42 Mac Mini and 512 ram?
i think i can answer that.. i have a mac mini... i do have 1gb.. dont be cheap.. get the upgrade.. i'm not sure overall.. but about 15-25 mins... i'm not having any issues with it... i'm loving this mini.. i'm dissapointed with the "upgrades" on the mini... its bullish... they should've upgraded processor... bluetooth and airport card. that's another fish to fry at a later date... but the mini is a good buy.. i love mine.. dont get the internal SuperDrive... just get an external, via firewire. i'm out
yeah buy a mac. they all do the same thing. some are faster and some are slower. im on a g4 1 ghz ibook with a 40 gig hd and 1.2 gb ram. that is about as fast as a 3 ghz intel p4. if u can save up i would buy g5 mac happing shopping. o yeah i forget that pee cee's are the root to all evil. lol
