    I have a LG GSA-4160 16X DVD Writer and a Pioneer DVR-109 16X DVD Writer. I installed them in two diffenent computers. The problem is that when I use nero to burn DVD, the maximum speed I can choose in nero is only 4X, not 16X. (Both 8X DVD-R and 16X DVD-R were tested).

    hi..

    if you use Nero 6 - let's have LAST section of your Nero log which lives in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '1A21' or similar.

    You can differentiate sections via this section divider "====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======"

    if you use Nero 7 - let's have LAST section of your Nero log which lives in C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Core\NeroHistory but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '5C80' or similar.

    You can differentiate sections via this section divider "====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======"

    I am having a similar problem. I own a Sony DRU-540A DVD Burner which is capable of burning DVD+R at 12x. I am using Verbatim DVD+R 16x discs but Nero is only burning them at 4x. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    The speed you burn is not only a factor of what Nero will burn -- Your Drive firmware is very much an important factor.

    Have a look at the test done on a Sony DRU-540A like yours -- and see how it performed under ideal conditions on various media.

    http://www.anandtech.com/storage/showdoc.aspx?i=2166&p=6

    Modern burners have an error testing criteria whereby they will slow down when they see an excessive amount of errors while burning. -- same goes for Nero who reduces speed in accordance with this error ratio the burner is confirming.

    Manufacturers will upgrade the firmware to correct for newer technology developed by software or media companies -- so it is important that you look for any update in firmware.

    @Fastzip -

    re the 12x, why such high burn speeds ?, see this link and the links within it for some ppl claiming success with movie burning at 16x - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/280447

    - firmware's up to date, albeit real old now, ie Aug 2004!

    - sufficient total memory but no free memory left. you need to close down more programs prior to ALL dvd work/burning to free up more memory

    - 4465MB is burning too close to outer edge of discs. If you use DVD Shrink, set target size to 4300MB in Shrink's preferences thus avoiding outer edge and not sacrificing much space

    - eh ?

    - CDRALW2K.SYS is part of Roxio. try uninstalling Roxio (doesn't always play well with Nero), then you might need to fully remove using Roxio Zapper - http://www.microadvantage.net/utilities
