I've been using Nero 6.6.0.18 to burn DVDs. I've been converting avi's to .vobs with WinAVI which has been working very nicely. Then I burn the DVD with nero. For the most part they all work very well on my computer. Then when I take them downstairs to play on the TV down there, sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. The other day I put a dvd in and it made lots of noise for a bout a minute and then gave me a disk error. Then today I tried another DVD and that made a lot of noise and then worked and then I popped it out and put back in the one from yesterday that didn't work b4, and all of a sudden it worked (still noisy and a bit of time to load). Also when I put them in my PS2, they all seem to work, they take a minute to load too but there's always skipping in between chapters which I don't get on my regular dvd player.

I'm thinking maybe theres a problem with the DVDs and how I'm burning them rather than a problem with both my dvd player and ps2. I burn at 8x, and I think I've used two different kinds of memorex dvd-rs

Maybe you've already answered your own question here. I'm not fond of Memorex, especially CMC MAG. No offense here and I really mean it, but this is the worst media ever on the planet next to any unknown brands of media.

See these 2 links for more info on Memorex http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/262544 or here's a very useful link from my buddy "creaky" http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/232406

    Good luck!!

hmm just burned another dvd at 4x. did NOT play in my dvd player, played fine in my PS2 except for the skipping between chapters

I guess I get what I pay for with memorex? Do you have another brand you'd recommend thats somewhat affordable?

and now that i've wasted many hours buring all of my movies to Memorex DVD-R's, what do you suggest I do to save myself from freaking out in 6-12 months when none of them work?

wud u recommend me buying like a 50 pack of taiyo and backing up all of my Memorex's while they're still "working" or would that somehow not work?

Once you've backed up all of them into your newly purchased Taiyo Yuden media, then you shouldn't have to worry. Keep in mind to always burn at 4X though.

    Good luck and happy burning!!
