I have video formats in rar. My question is can I burn them straight to dvd? And if not, how would I be able to? Thank You.

I'm quite certain you don't have to, but I would definitely do so.

And, as always, everything Binkie said is spot-on and covered everything.

    Hi again durda111
Where these multiple donwloads? Or do you just have a bunch of rar files in a folder?
If just one download - just extracting one rar will create/xtract the whole movie (.avi file).
What software do you currently have for dvd's?

These are all smaller movies of a big movie. I have a bunch of different software that I downloaded off the net. All freeware. WinRar. VSO DivXtoDVD. AVI2DVD. DVD2AVI. HJSplit. Virtual Dub. VFAPI. Nero. DVD Fab. DVD Region+CSS Free. DVD Decrypter. DVD2One. AnyDVD. DVD Shrink. That's pretty much all of them so if there is anything I should download that I don't currently have could you please let me know. Thanks.

damn, either you don't know how to deal with .rar archives or YOUR BOOTLEGS SUCK

xbox media center can play files straight from .rar archives from a network shared dvd! (or hdd or thumbstick or from the xbox itself... INVEST!)

I can play the rar files. I wanted to know how I would go about burning if I could just extract one of the rar files and get the whole movie to burn.

Is it just one download w/ a bunch of rar files?

Are you trying to play these on a standalone dvd player?
Last question - if you do can the player play avi files or do they need to be converted?

It's just one download with a bunch of rars.

Yes. I am trying to play it on a stand alone dvd player.

I am not sure. I have a whole bunch of dvd players on which I can try to play them on. I do believe my portable DVD player is able to play them.

Ok - have WinRAR installed. Create a folder where you want to store the movie.
Double check on the one the files - 1st one. This will open WinRAR - click on 'extract to' and pick the folder you created. WinRAR will uncompress the file. When done (takes a few minutes - not long) you folder will contain 1 avi file which should be the whole movie.

If you not sure if avi's play on the players - then use Nero's Vision to convert them to a dvd complaint video.
(see guides for winrar & vision in my 1st post)

Or to test your player you can try Nero Burning Rom and burn the avi file as a data dvd or cd (depending on the avi's size).

Try this and let us know how it goes.

Thanks Binkie, I have one more question if it isn't too much. I also have a bunch of xvid movies that I would like to create into a dvd. I know I will have to compress them, so is there a way I can compress the xvids with dvd shrink or any other tool? Or do I have to turn them all into vob files? Also, I found out that my stand alone DVD players will play avi files. Thanks Again.

To make your DVD with Xvid files, you'll need to convert them to VOB. I would (and do)use Nero Vision Express.

Shrink can't handle them so you'll convert & compress w/ Vision like sillycybe said.

Good that your players play avi's - if your not interested in adding menus & such than burn them as data discs - so much faster!!

Oh and ask away - that's what we're here for!!
