trolley, How long was your file? For me the problem only seems to happen when the file is longer than 15 to 18 minutes. (I am guessing that you may be making a number of short movies, because you said you use the program about 10 times in a day) I don't have any problem with loss of video and sound synch. Reading what others have written, it seems that may be due to dropped frames when you download from the camera. The frames are dropped, but the sound is all captured, so the sound track becomes longer than the picture track and will lag behind. Ian
The file is anywhere from 30-60 minutes long.(Court Depositions) and yeah I do use them about 10 times a day. I would normally think that, but studio's not telling me that it dropped anyframes. I upgraded from Pinnacle's Movie Star thinking studio would be better. They do have a lot of bells and whistles that I don't need but MovieStar never came out of sync. I'm just about tired of messing with it.
Well I was one of those who purchased Studio 9 Plus, after watching some tech shows, where it was recommended. I had been using another product. It's just too bad that I didn't check this forum first. Anyway since I can't go back I went forward and purchased Adobe Premier Elements. It's differnt but it does what I need and it renders to MPEG-2 which is what I needed. I don't work for Adobe either.......just tired of trying to tweak the program and listen to all of Pinnacle's drivel etc etc.
I wish it was that easy for me. It's not for home it's my work editing software. It's not like I can talk them into buying a $500+ piece of software after 2 months of using a $300 piece that I read all these good reviews about. I'm convinced that everyone's problems have no real answer. Pinnacle didn't think this one through. The patches don't help a thing. I'm not sure what they were thinking!!! And I've been all over Pinnacle's Forums and have even called them. They really need better tech support.
Ok... an update from meon very strange happenings.. my copy of studio plus has started to work.. but not on files captured by studio. I have a copy of MGI videowave and a copy of Nero. Both capture avi to the same DV quality and both work perfectly with studio. The same files captured on the same machine but using studio continue to fail on pass 2. So I guess I just work differently, pity that option may not be available to everyone. Colin
My problem is I HAVE to capture in mpeg-1 fromat b/c that's what my clients use. I could capture in AVI then convert it but the time and space becomes a problem because of the quantity I use.
I understand that you have to work to company standards, I was just hoping to help a little. Also for the record tonight, mpeg1 & mpeg 2 files captured by nero also work perfectly with studio... but same tape caputured with studio fails on 2 pass as usual. Good luck Colin
I appreciate the help I'm not griping at anyone. Just the fact that I expect for something to work that I pay for. No biggie. I'm sure I'll upgrade after enough convincing. Any Recomendations?
We all agree with that sentiment... Pinnacle needs to sell product that works as advertised, as buyers we expect just that. I've said it before on this forum... Pinnacle, pull your fingers out, improve your 'support' and fix the product we all bought in good faith.
Colin, your observation that files captured by MGI Videowave will render in Studio 9 fit my experiences as well. When running the 9.4.3 patch (I'm not any more; have rolled back to the 9.1 install version) I was only able to get one project to render successfully. That project was one using video that was captured in a version of Studio that was prior to 9.4.3, probably 9.3 if my memory serves correct. I was never able to get a full tape (60 minutes) of video captured in 9.4.3 to render correctly. I think I said it above but I'll state it again. Now that I'm back on 9.1, most issues seem to have gone away and I'm able to render and create my DVD's. (not all, unfortunately, but the remaining ones are bearable) FTR, I also just left another reply to Pinnacle Support telling them to read this post and get a more stable product, since their reply to my original support post (where I did reference this thread) said to go through their basic troubleshooting steps. I don't believe for the life of me that we have issues that can be resolved with "basic troubleshooting", but instead that their capture functionality in v9.4.3 is crap. Hopefully like others have said, they can pull their head out and see some sunshine someday; if not, perhaps we can all help them shove it farther in by informing unsuspecting victims with our honest negative observations of their product (and lack of support) via this thread. Good luck everyone, and hope this helps someone. Rob
I've noticed that too. In my depths of frustration, I bought roxio easy media creator (editing fine, authoring rubbish, and a bunch of other useful tools for not too much cash). Last night I got a Studio project to render straight to DVD but I had done the capture using the Roxio tool. I think this is why the 'sample' footage Pinnacle support give you always works. They should be looking at their capture software as well as the rendering. In all fairness it was just a hockey game for coaching purposes so there was no background music. It did have a menu and a couple of titles for viewing set plays.
I posted a message on 12th September (yep - that long ago) stating that the capture software of 9.4.3 was at fault, and it is related to sound. Nice to see how many people are rediscovering that over the last 5 weeks or so. But Hallelujah! Pinnacle have solved the problem! Version 10 is now available - and it will only cost us £40 (for those with US keyboards, that's 40 pounds sterling). Interested to know what you all think. I think we've bought a faulty product, and should have the legal right to have it fixed. I also have the other horrible thought - what if Version 10 doesn't work either. I'm interested in your views. Does anybody know of the means by which we can take legal action (Sales Description, etc) against them in the UK? Shouldn't cost anything - but if it does, maybe we can all club together. Allan
I'd be game if it worked. I'm still fooling around with the crap. I read that post you wrote and it mad alot of since. It'd be interesting to see them make a recall on v.9 and send us v.10 to make up for it...but it probably won't happen. I just bought a new graphics card hoping it'd help my sync problems. Later for now Blake Trolinger
I just got a new card too. I saw your post Allan, which prompted me (now that I had another capture alternative) to try Studio on the alternatively captured video. I've rebuilt my computer to try and get over all this. Now they can't even unlock my new studio install. Still says its a trial. I'm downloading Adobe Premiere Elements as we speak...
Pinnacle claims that version 10 is rebuilt from the ground up based on their liquid edition engine. My guess is that the programmers probably messed up ver. 9 so good that they just were unable to fix it... it used to happen to me a lot back when I was still programming... Anyway... this should mean that stability has improved, but it doesn't matter to me. I can't afford it...
Just got an e'mail from Pinnacle informing me that I can have Pinnacle studio plus 10 at a good rate £40 and be the first to own a copy if I order now. Haaaaaaa. I'm still waiting for a response from Pinnacles customer service regarding a mail I sent them about the usual problems with version 9. Think I'll let others try it first and if I read the same old story pinnacle can shove it!!
I sent the following email to Pinnacle via their Technical Website. I think they have a legal responsibility (certainly in the UK) to correct their faulty software. PLEASE, PLEASE let them know that you agree. I cannot prove their software is faulty on my own - I need your support. Let them know the strength of feeling. Allan Sudio 9 version 9.4.3 has been recognised by many to be flawed in the capturing of video (evidence - see afterdawn.com at http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/4/229311 You now wish to charge me £40 to correct this fault. It is my belief that, under the Trades Description Act, the product is not fit for the purpose for which it was sold. I therefore request that you correct the malfunction in Studio 9.4.3 without charge, otherwise I wll require to report this issue to my local Trading Standards Office in Falkirk Council. I require an answer to this complaint in a reasonable timescale. Allan W B Stalker Falkirk Council
I'll go with that. Why should we pay for something that doesn't work anyway? It's not like we just took it out of the box and got pissed. I'm sure everyone here has done everything they can to fix the problem including Pinnacle's suggestions.
Allan, Yes, I think you (Sept 12) and others are correct in that it is a capture caused problem. For my video that would not render to DVD files, I re-captured the largest sequence from the camera using Nero 2.1.2.25 OEM version that came with my new computer. File is about 6.5 Gig Type 2 .AVI. I renamed the capture to the same name as the original captured by Pinnacle and it was accepted into the timeline with all the same edits etc., though I think there is some slight frame slippage (I'll check this when I burn to DVD-RW). The main thing is it now rendered OK to DVD files. I hope I can now proceed with other editing using Nero and never Pinnacle, for tape capture. Ian - Vancouver, Canada
I have been told that some authoring SW causes problems for others. After I removed all the Nero crap that I installed for my new Sony DL writer, my Pinnacle returned to normal. BTW, I have authored hundreds of DVD's with it over the years and it has ALWAYS been very stable for me.
