Hello to all. I have spent a few weeks looking at web sites and all the mac related forums on dvd burning and copying on this site but I still have ?'s. First of all I think I have the software I need(i think) including DVD studio Pro. All I am really looking to do is make a VCD backup of my DVD's. Most of my movies are larger than 4.7gigs I'm afraid. Just the basic Movie with 5.1 sound. No DTS,Menus,or chapter breaks, subtitles or different langs. I say VCD cause I want them to play on my DVD players and want to use inexpensive CDR's. I understand picture quality will no be the same as DVD, but it should be ALOT better then a VHS tape. I am running a new 1ghz iMAC with about 50 gigs free on my HD. OS x also. I am new to Mac so be gentle with the instructions and lingo. I thank all of you for the help in advance.

I strongly suggest that you burn to DVD-R´s.. If you have a Superdrive then you should take advantage of it. So, what you need for making a copy of a movie is three little programmes. The first one is called DVDBackup and can be downloaded from this site. When you use DVDBackup it will decode and decrypt the DVD files so you can compress them with this next programme called DVD2oneX. It can also be downloaded from this very site. What it does is that it compresses the files to fit on a 4.7 GB DVD-R. When the files are compressed and done you simple burn the disc with the files. I prefer Toast because it´s fast and easy. I suggest you get that programme. Good luck!

    OR

    OSex
    Transcoder if required
    Toast (just my preference)

    or

    OSex
    Sizzle
    Toast

    or

    DVDBackup
    Toast

all at no cost (except toast which you don't NEED), although you are encouraged to donate if you find the product useful.
