I am using a sil 3512 sata card to hook up a western digital 250gb hd to my pc. The drive shows up in device manager but not in my computer, it says device is working properly, but it doesn't have a drive letter. The raid option is disabled also since I am only using one drive. Thanks in advance for advice.

I had the same prob until I installed a 4Gb HD as a master drive onto the main IDE. Then everything started to work. But I Still can't make it the BOOT drive. I have a ABIT 939 Motherboard with Audio 9600 Radeon AVG VGA Graphics Card.
So I suggest you buy a small IDE HDD and install it as your boot drive and it should work.

The Sata HD is a Western Dig 250GB.

Thanks for all of you guys help. The problem was that I didn't create partition. I didn't know this was neccessary since I never had to do it with other ide drives.

all drives whether ide or sata have to be partitioned than formated before being used.
