Hello, I have an IBM thinkpad laptop and it recently stopped working. When I switch it on it the screen stays blank and the laptop beeps a few times, then nothing happens, does anyone know what the problem is ? Thanks.

Beeps a few times? Can you be more specific? If you give the exact sequence of beeps we can figure out what the problem is.

Ok, sorry, it beeps consistantly 4 times, then a second pause, then it beeps 4 times again, it does this 4 times, so 4 sets of 4 beeps.

That's why I hadn't got back yet, it's not one of the ones listed. Which model thinkpad is it?

Hey, I browsed the IBM website and I think I found the problem,

Four cycles of four short beeps and a blank screen.
    -System board (Security chip)

Can this be fixed, and if so how? Thanks in advance.

Security chip? Not heard of it, but it sounds like you may need a motherboard replacement.

Has the laptop recently experience any type of intense vibration such as being dropped?

The series of beeps could indicate a dislodged or bad memory chip. First check to see that they are seated properly then if there is more than one stick then remove a stick and try and boot, if that doesn't work then reinstall it and try to boot with the other.
