    Also, what benefits are there to unlocking a phone? Is it just so you can use it on AT&T, T-Mobile, etc.?

    As far as I know the only advantage of an "unlocked" phone is so you can use it with any provider. Most of the time you just put in your sim card (for example from T-Mobile) and since its got your address book etc. on it you don't need to "import" anything.

    However, I am not real smart in the unlocked cell phone department so I may be wrong. This is just an educated guess based on what I've read.
