Right im currently using a desktop computer. It has a network card which is picking up the router downstairs wirelessly. Im wondering, when i get rid of this computer and by a laptop. Will the laptop pick up the belkin router downstairs so i can use it wirelessly ?

Im looking to get something like this or this.

The current specs of my computer are. Amd Sempron 3100 + , 1.81ghz processor and 226 mb of ram. Will a laptop like those above be better in terms of internet browsing, programme launching etc.

Thanks, also, if anybody can recomend any sites or laptops it will be much apreciated. Im looking to spend up to £350. I know its not a lot but it looks like a can get a laptop with better specs then my desktop which i have no problems with as i have reached 926kbps on a 4mb connection or maybe an 8 haha.

Thanks guys. And long time no see.

Almost all new laptops come with wireless built into them... So you should be fine with the 2nd one you posted. The 1st ones link is broken, so can you fix that?

By the way your desktop PC isn't too bad, it just has hardly any RAM. Buy another 512MB stick and it'll run ten times faster, I guarantee it.

Can anybody else help me out with the laptop situation ?

What are they like for overheating ?

Im going to be leaving it on overnight downloading so its going to be on alot of the time if not for a full day.

since you haven't fixed the broken link to the first one, we can't really compare. Low end laptops are usually Ok with regard to heat, but to make sure, don't leave it on a carpet, and elevate it above any surface by using a book, if it's going to be running for a long time. Better still would be a book either side, so there's a gap in the middle for air to get through.

    There is the link.

Thanks for your reply. I understand what you mean about elevating it. Would make sense to build laptops with the fans on the side and top but, owell.

The laptop would be on the majority of the time. Wether im burning a dvd overnight or doing something else etc which needs to be running a long time to get ratio up etc.

Could you recomend any websites or specific makes of laptops ?

Thanks, also could i buy a fan off ebay for the laptop ? Are they all standard fitting.

You're looking for something labelled'notebook cooler' really, nothing more specific, most of them are different. I'd generally advise against Acer, they're cheap, and relatively well built, but they've had issues with suspicious software in the past. Go with something like a Dell Inspiron or Hp NX series.
