burning dvd taking 6+ hours?

i wanna back a couple dvds i have. after i compress them using handbrake they compress to around 3 gigs, should it take 6+ hours to burn them to a dvd disk? i am using a mac book with the standard burner it comes with... would computer speed have anything to do with burning time? or would it just come down to the speed of the burner? is there anything i can do to speed up the time of the burn without compromising the quality of the video?

 

even at 1x, it should take roughly 60 minutes to burn a complete DVD and maybe 45 minutes to burn 3GB. There is definitely something else going on there.

Some possible causes are:

Firmware out of date
--------Use ImgBurn to update firmware in "Tools=>Device=>check for firmware update"

Your drive is in PIO mode
--------Check your IDE channel in Device manager to see if they are in DMA or PIO mode. You want DMA mode. Change it if necessary and restart.

Mobo drivers are corrupt/out of date
--------Not sure how to check this...Downloading & installing latest IDE drivers would update them though.

Virus in your PC (the type like Sony Rootkit, Alpha-DVD and other copy "protections")
--------There might be scan tools for this type of virus....I am not sure how to find this because my PC is immune to this type of malicious bug...Wait for more information on this or research some scan tools for star force, Apha-DVD (Settec I think), Sony Rootkit... I really don't even know too many of them.

I am not too familiar with this type of problem, but I am sure someone will come along shortly and give you better info.

thank you for your responses however all these ideas for correcting the problem are for pc. i am using a mac book lap top. any ideas what to do for mac? also i doubt it has anything to do with it but i'm using toast titanium as my main burning program.. i dont think that would have anything to do with it though..?

also another thought that just came to me... would it matter if i was using dvd-r or dvd-rw disks? would that have anything to do with speed differences? i was looking at the specs for my mac and it says that its: cd/dvd write speed 24x (cd) / 4x (dvd-r) and cd dvd rewrite speed: 10x (cd) / 4x (dvd-rw)

any thoughts?
