I have used and burnt succesfully for a couple of years with light use.Using nero6 WMP pinnacle .Just recently the drive has had trouble reading discs in general sometimes blanks sometimes pre records, occasionally making my pc reboot!!I downloaded daemon tools light as i thought i may have software driver issue's. This didn't work at all, and since then i cannot write at all to disc. It goes through the process fine then errors at the point of actual burn.In wmp it will record and finalize approx 30 seconds of just 1 track . Nero and pinnacle just fail end of.
I have updated the firmware , to no avail!uninstalled and rebooted none of which has worked.
    See Nero error report below-11.1.2008

Did you run the ASPICK after installation? Just to make sure your force aspi is installed correctly?

What is the error you get with nero now? If you are still having problems with Nero, post an error log again. Sometimes Nero has problems when burning CDs due to the native IMAPI Windows CD burning software. Take a look at this thread:

    http://www.gidforums.com/t-1805.html

Set IMAPI to manual. Also, keep your burner's firmware updated to be compatible with the media you use. Don't burn at maximum speed.

I initially used solution 1 and though it partly worked in wmp finalising just 14 of 16 tracks it didn't work at all in nero. I then used solution free ( force aspi) and it worked totally in wmp. However i haven't tried nero yet as i have no Rw discs and have used up a godd 15-20 cdr's over the last week trying to sort this out. I'll get some more and let youy know . Though I do suspect it will be ok.
By the way I have noticed that nero is a bugger to uninstall totally, It appears to have removed but when you re-install it doesn't require user info, and still has some saved settings present ??? How do I remove it completely to start all over??
Thanke a million for your help!!!!

It is a pain in the arse trying to uninstall Nero. Should use Nero 6 Clean Tool:

    http://www.nero.com/enu/support-nero6-tools-utilities.html

After you uninstall, install the latest version of nero 6/7.

Remove this driver from your computer using Roxio Zap. It conflicts with Nero.

Get a different brand discs, get Sony, Verbatim.

    Try burning slower , X24.

    Cdralw2k.sys file information
If you have any of the above software, and want to use them, you have to keepe it. If not, I would get rid of it by running Roxio Zap.

Don't worry bout asking too many questions. We just want to have you burning!

Hi me again. started getting the odd probs again. However it appears to be hit and miss whether i get a burn or not, basically it works if it feels like it!. Do you think this may imply my cd drive is shot ???? But when it fails the symptoms are as previously mentioned. Starts to write , though it jimps to 7 maybe 13% gets up to 23 26 at best the fails!
    thanks in advance
