Hi, On my PC the only codecs I've ever installed are DivX, XviD, and 3ivx. This has always allowed me to view all my files. I recently re-formatted and installed those same 3 drivers as I always do. There are a bunch of HDV (m2t) and DivX (avi) files that I could view fine in WMP11 before the format. Now, none of the m2t files will play in WMP11 at all, and a couple of the avi files won't load, but most of them will (and these are all part of a set that were all encoded the same). To make matters even weirder, all the problem files play in VLC fine... so that would make you think the codecs ARE on my system... right? Any ideas? Thanks!
I believe that VLC does not uses system codecs, so maybe they aren't installed. You could drag one of the files onto 'GSpot' and it should tell you if the video/audio codec is in place. http://www.headbands.com/gspot/v26x/GSpot270a.zip
To find out what codecs you have installed in your system: Click Run. Type in dxdiag and click enter. Let it collect system information. Then click the Save All Information... button to save your DxDiag scan as a text file. Now, open the text file and scroll down to see the codecs you have installed in your PC.
Well GSpot said that I had the right driver installed for the DivX file, and for the M2T file it just said "269 (or something) drivers available" which didn't make any sense. I installed K-Lite megapack which took all of 30 seconds and now all my videos work. Don't know why I never thought of a megapack before, this works great.
