    Hi:

Is there some sort of ranking of the subject software that I can review prior to purchase? I am aware that most developers offer free trials, but am confused as to which does all and does it best.

    Thanks.

I always go to the topten reviews website to see what they have review lately. But I also check this forum to see what other people are using that works good.

But I always use the trial version before I buy anything. Even if it is ranked number 1, I need to check out first to make sure it's easy for me to use and will work without crashing my computer.

Just because something sells the most doesn't automatically make it the best.. Like a big mac.. we all know they are junk, but they sell more than any other..

Go freeware wherever possible for dvd ripping because they get updated more.

I honestly think there is absolutely no reason on earth why anyone would pay a single penny for any software, when in fact there are free applications that do the job(most times a better job). But if you are one of the "lazy" people and want to throw around some money, get DVDFab Platinum. Decrypts/rips/converts/burns. Frequently updated.

    Thanks to all who replied.

FYI, I have all the freeware, but of late the encryptions seem to win out. I usually try Shrink first, DVD FAB Platinum, then Ripit4me. Last disc I tried decrypting with the freeware was Superbad but had no positive results. I downloaded a free trial of AnyDVD and it worked fine.

Am I to believe that those of you using freeware are having no problems with decryption?

no problem with the free DVDFab HD Decrypter and ocasionally FixVts. Your problem might be that you have the outdated freeware, R4it4Me and DVD Dhrink( still great as authoring/transcoding tool, but chokes as a decrypter, is obsolete.

    Hi Cyprusrom:

First,my apologies to all as I referred to one of the freeware programs as DVDFAB Platinum when what I meant was DVDFab HD Decrypter.

I know Shrink is obsolete, but it still works on lots of DVD's. As to DVDFAB HD Decrypter, I do have the up to date version. In regards to FixVts, I've never heard of it but will surely use your link to check it out. Thanks for the tip.

No problem, that's why i love this proggie.

Updates often, no cost, as good if not better than many paywares out there.

The others have already said it, but always go looking for updates, there's usually one or few every week or so; i swear by DVDFab HD Decrypter (free version) but finally caved in and bought Platinum as have had so much luck with the free version (plus speedy help with updates when the odd troublesome movie comes along)

    Hi Creaky:

    Thanks for your input.

As you can see from the replies I've gotten to this question, the consenus seems to be that the DVDFab HD Decrypter freeware is the choice program, however, I have had no luck with its decrypting ability. I have the latest version and followed the guide listed elsewhere in this thread but have not had any success with it. One of the problems I have is when I insert a DVD, the selection window from my Plextor drive opens and I select "Burn with DVD Fab HD Decrypter" and the Fab Decrypter window source line prompts me to insert a disc. I have better luck starting the program when I use my
DVD-ROM drive and always get an error code. Having said that, I'm very wary of their paid version.

I am goint to "free trial" a few of the top ten rated programs.

I have tried AnyDVD via free trial and I am really impressed with it.

I won't comment on Anydvd as i've only used the trial a couple or few times, long ago. What i will say is that optical drives can have a bearing on success. My main ripping drive is 4 or 5 years old, it's a dvd-rom drive, they're far better at ripping (than burners) IMHO

edit- don't be wary of DVDFab, paid or otherwise; it's a fantastic program, and the author(s) are constantly on the cdfreaks forums answering questions and releasing updates; as i say it'll be your ripping drive; don't blame the authors for the drive :)

Could not agree more. I can't honestly say that DvdFab is all i use, but i can say that most of the time my process starts with it.

    Get it.

    Rip, burn, and conquer!

Hi Again 7th,Creaky and other Responders:

To reiterate, I have had no succes with DVDFab Hd Decrypter freeware. The most recent titles I have tried with it are The Game Plan and Underdog without success. Agreed, that it's a program easy to use, but it does not decrypt most of the DVD's I've tried with it.
Has anyone else attempted to decrypt the above DVD's with the free version of DVDFAB HD Decrypter?

In any case, if all of you think that the paid "platinum" version is great, I'll download a free trial.

I still have the DVD. I'm going to try it again and record the error message.

Agree. I nailed both of 'em with DvdFab with ZERO issues. Yeah, post some kind of log.
