I normally don't like to look at an HjT log from the get go. Do you have any ad-aware or spyware removal tools? Have you run a defrag on your machine? Have you emptied temp files, cleaned your registry, removed cookies, etc.?

Answer those questions and I can help you get your machine running faster again. I know many free tools to help you along the way. I will give you two to start with. Download AusLogics Disk Defrag Link it is a quicker and better way to defrag your machine than what comes with the OS. Another great program to have is RamDef XT Link. After you download it set it up to defrag your memory and have it start when you start the OS.

These are the first two steps to having your machine run faster. You do need to clean the machine and the registry as well. You will need a couple of other programs that are free after it is clean.

U defrag my system regularly, also i use CCleaner. and i empty my temporary files.
#4
should i download them both or they're both the same?
#5
Also try hitting ctl-alt-del and click the processes tab.
This will tell you if you have anything running in the background using a lot of memory like antivirus programs etc.

Lots of programs you download put resident programs in the background that can really slow down your computer.

Keep an eye on the CPU column to see if any numbers are jumping up and down.

Programs like McAfee and Norton are bad and can really bog down your computer also.

something i've nitice is fssm32. ithink is from my antivirus that takes a little bit of memory on star up but the it goes down
#7
fssm32 is a part of F-Secure Anti-Virus Client. fssm32 should be located in the C:\Program Files area and not in the C:\Windows or C:\Windows\System32 folder. Some viruses disguise themselves in this manner.

I would download the two programs that I mentioned and defrag your machine again. The AusLogics will give you a report to review after the system is defragged. Read the report and make sure that there are not hidden files or areas that could not be defragged because of space limitations. The other program will defrag your system RAM and keep it defragged as you are working. This will also speed things up.

I would suggest booting in safe mode after you have some free programs installed to help clean junk files and the registry. CCleaner is a good little program, but with the use of Spybot Search & Destroy, and A-Squared free you should really have your system clean.

Spybot Link
A-Squared Link

The next programs I would recommend you using after your system is clean is ERUNT and NTREGOPT. They are both free programs to backup your registry and to optimize your registry. You may read about how to use them as well at the site: http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/

As was stated by gnovak1, the more programs that you download the more programs you have that want to put things in your startup. This will slow things down as well. You may select Start -> Run and type "msconfig" without the quotes of course, and view your startup programs. You may find items that you do not want running at startup. In many programs there is a way to tell it not to run at startup, but many do not give you that option.

In some cases you may have startup programs running from programs that have been removed or are no longer in use on your machine. It is worth looking into anyway.

Sorry that it takes me a while to respond. I work 10 Hr. days and do not get home till close to 2AM. Let me know how it goes.

thks for the help. My computer starts out slow b/c of fssm32.exe
that program eats up and slow down my computer for the 1st 6 minutes. it reache an average of 150,000K. then it slows down and my computer acts normal again. I defrag and down loaded and use all those programs. Since fssm32 is for my antivirus. Should i find a new antivirus, should I delete fssm32?

fssm32.exe is part of the Charter High-Speed Security suite that you have installed on your machine. It is part of F-Secure and your HjT log shows that. Do not remove it.

It sounds like the defrag helped, and if the fssm32.exe is only slowing the machine down for a short time, then I would leave it alone. However, I have never used F-Secure software. You may be able to go into the program and tell it not to scan when you boot-up the machine.

Many AV clients are like that. If it is making your startup slow then turn off the auto scan on startup if it allows it. As far as AV goes, F-Secure is very highly rated. I would stick with it at least until it is time for a renewal fee. Then I might check out another security suite like Kaspersky. It is one of the highest rated security suites. http://usa.kaspersky.com/newversion7/?aw...ersky&HBX_OU=50
