A big THANKS out to everybody who gave up their precious time to help me out.....i finally cracked it......(special thanks to sayonara Jo) Anyway forward movement brings more little niggles....i've successfully burned my first back up and it plays in my laptop but not on my xbox 360 or my DVD player. Its like the xbox is trying to play it but somethings holding it....the DVD player is giving me music sound but no picture or talking, although i think the DVD player is doing a better job playing the disc than the xbox. Also the DVD readout is giving the message ROOT. Has anyone ever come across this phenomena? and if so, how do i fix it?.
Thanks ever so for your reply . I didnt use nero. I used shrink to shrink and when it was finished shrinking i got a prompt telling me put a disc in the drive to burn the files onto....so i did. Would this have been Nero arriving in there even though i didn't call on it. I just assumed it was shrink doing what it was supposed to do....i'm still a newb so its all stuff i haven't encountered before. I was also thinking about the discs i'm burning onto....they're maxell DVD+RW's. They aint cheap either but, as i'm new to it all i may have lots of attempts per disc so rewrites are the best for now. Any idea's
How do i get one of those cheeky doggies onto my messages? I read your product review. That DTV was almost free. They cost 150-200 euro in ireland. Tell Jo i said Hi back. Also who or what is endo?
Sorry if i caused some confusion with that last question Jo but i asked iluvendo a question and you answered using your bryston nickname so i was lead to believe that you were using 2 i.d's.....i only go by murphj11.Also Iluvendo answered me back saying shrink and nero 8 and 9 aren't compatible. Again i didnt use nero with shrink so the nero/shrink thing didnt apply to me.basically i shrunk and burned and i cant get playback on my House DVD player or xbox360 but i can on my p.c.......do you have any suggestions i could use.....you seem to know a lot about this subject.....do you think its software or media. Off to work i go. Slan oiche
The symptoms you describe are typical of incorrect file structures for DVD-video. A computer drive or laptop can often play a disc because it automatically selects from multiple formats. A DVD player or the Xbox looks for the DVD-video format alone (some DVD players also recognize MP3 players and some even have an infrared laser in addition to the red laser for DVDs so that they can play CDs.). If that DVD-video format is incorrect in any way, the disc won't play. Since your media are (Media, like phenomena, are plural. The singular "this" in your first post can only apply to one medium or one phenomenon.) rewritable Maxell discs, you can do a full erase on them and start over, unlike DVD+R or DVD-R discs that would have been ruined. Although rewritable discs have only a third of the reflectivity of a dye-based disc, the fact that your DVD player is playing music indicates that it is picking something up. Your Xbox should also be able to read DVD+RW discs. If you have Nero, use it to try to copy the ripped files by putting all of them in the VIDEO_TS folder. Nothing goes into the AUDIO_TS folder. Nero may tell you if a file is missing or corrupt when you start to record. This is handy because copy protection often puts empty folders or references into the files that will prevent DVD players from reading discs, and Nero generally catches that...phenomenon.
Hi Murph, you may like to peruse through this thread : http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/744331 Jo (Hasta la vista baby)
Hi there JoeRyan. You are right. I should have used "these" phenomena. I'll have to be watching my p's and q's....thanks for the info....it may well be that nero 9 and shrink don't mix so i'm gonna install nero 6 if it's possible. Do you know if i have to uninstall nero 9 first. I'll keep trying everything possible to see what kinda results i get. It will be good for me. Do you know what ROOT means ?It came up on my DVD digital readout.
Hi Jo, Not sure why you would like me to peruse through that stuff.I'm in work now but i promise i will when i get home. james
"Root" may refer to the root menu of the DVD-video format. That's why I suspect that the format is the problem and not the discs or the drive. I suspect that you may have to uninstall Nero 9 in order to use Nero 6, but I don't know for sure. (It's much easier to uninstall Nero products than Sonic/Roxio products that leave their mouse droppings everywhere behind the walls of the registry.) I don't use Shrink, so I can't comment on that software. Something like AnyDVD that is an all-in-one utility may be a solution. It's free to try; and if it works once, it ought to keep on working.
Thanks for that man. I'll give it a bash in a few minutes. Last night i deleted the log was recorded directly after burning to see if nerodid actually launch itself. I just assumed that shrink looked after the burn. I'll let you know in a while. James
