Is it possible to use an external hard drive(usb, firewire, or something else)to link it to your gamecube as a server and play the games from there?

Not that I'm aware of. First of all, the Gamecube does not have any of those ports although it's my understanding that some of the preliminary disc ripping was accomplished by wiring a homebrew USB port into the Gamecube by some means unknown to me. Also, the tools for ripping and running game images require an operating system with the appropriate software utilities installed to work.
