Hello Flip, I am having problems with dvdxcopy xpress,
and not sure where to go to get it working, I am a casual user so I am not sure when it stopped working, I did a clean install back in march and I am pretty sure after reloading, it worked, but now I am having problems. any direction would be nice since I did pay for the software in December 03'.

    Thanks,

    Billiam

    Billiam,

I just read you other post in this thread:
    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/98358

I'm unsure of you exact problem. First you say it won't detect the media, then you say the burn takes alot longer. Which is it? And what version are you using? I noticed you checked your ide settings ... are they set to DMA?

Well thanks for the quick reply, I have been trying to use xpress for about a week now and have had no luck. I think the first blank dvd was messed up so I am not sure if that was a problem or not, sorry.. I have tried several items reading the forums and it seems if I check dma my system becomes very unstable.
I tried to backup a dvd the other night and it read almost all of it, took a long time also, and then it came up with an error, something about "sector" I am sorry I didnt write it down but really after about 2 hours of reading and then getting that error I was not real happy. I have started to use "shrink" and nero, but it seems to take awhile also. I realize my system is the not the best but its all I have right now.

    Dell Dimension4100 1ghz, 128mb, 20,hdd, 40hdd, hp 300i burner.

I hope this gives you a little bit more info, I will be gone after this, its time for my beauty sleep..

    Thanks,

    Billiam

    billiam,

Well you do want your ide settings set to DMA. What version of Xpress are you using? You mentioned in the other thread you did a reformat ... have you updated your burners firmware? Have you ever installed a aspi layer?

Funny you ask about the APSI thing, I am not sure on that one, I was wondering about that myself how do I know if I need to or not?

I upgraded firmware just last week to no help.

DMA? I will try again, and see if it helps or changes things but it sure seems that it makes my system really messed up.

I know this is dumb but how do I find the version?

    Thanks,

    Billiam

When you first open Xpress it should say in the top to the window. Or while it's open, run task manager.

Some think you don't need one, but I like to install one just so I know I've got a "working" aspi layer installed.
    http://forceaspi18.w.interia.pl/

I would recommend that you use ForceASPI in the following way...

Run dumpASPI to backup your current ASPI layer
Run instASPI to install the new ASPI layer
    Reboot your PC
Run aspichk to see if everything worked OK

Okay flip here we go again.

I checked my version of xpress it is "DVD XCOPY XPRESS V 3.0.2!

Also, ran aspi check and it said this:
    LOG0143: *****************************************************************
    LOG0144: Starting ASPICHK[1] installer on Sun Aug 08 01:23:09 2004
    ASPICHK0438: OS = Windows 95 (4.90.3000)
    UPGRADE1004: c:\windows\system\wnaspi32.dll dated 06/08/2000 21:00:00, 36864 bytes.
    UPGRADE1062: c:\windows\system\wnaspi32.dll version 1.0.0.1
    UPGRADE1004: c:\windows\system\winaspi.dll dated 06/08/2000 21:00:00, 3536 bytes.
    UPGRADE1062: c:\windows\system\winaspi.dll version 1.0.0.65
    UPGRADE1004: c:\windows\system\iosubsys\apix.vxd dated 06/08/2000 21:00:00, 29497 bytes.
    UPGRADE1062: c:\windows\system\iosubsys\apix.vxd version 4.0.0.952
UPGRADE0965: File c:\windows\system\aspienum.vxd does not exist
UPGRADE0369: No existing file to compare, upgrade recommended
ASPICHK0522: Inconsistent version numbers among components
    ASPICHK0592: ASPI installation has problems
LOG0218: Closing installer log on Sun Aug 08 01:23:09 2004
    LOG0219: *****************************************************************

so by that I would assume that my aspi is not working correctly.

Did you still want me to run Dumbaspi? to back up the current one?

    I will await your response..

Also, tried to backup a dvd using xpress, and when doing so it kept giving me the blue screen of death stating that it was unable to read or write to disk E press any key to continue. I do so and it continues to read very slowly and then does it again.

    That is with DMA checked....

    Thanks,

    Billiam

No you really just need to run killaspi and then instaspi.

Also update your version to 3.2.1 ... you have just XPress, right?

    Billiam,

    Your running Windows 95??

I noticed that myself, I am actually running Windows ME, not sure why it says that.

I found my dvd burning install info and it says that I should have dma checked, I am wondering what else could be causing this to make my system so unstable.

DVDXCOPYxpress does not work either way.

Oh well I will keep trying..

    Billiam,

You ever consider updating your O/S?

Well yes and no, I am sort of waiting for the wife to get a computer so I can do what I want with this one, I have windows 2000, but I have not installed it.

    have any other Ideas?

should I still do the aspi thing?

What about totally uninstalling DVDXcopy and starting over?

I read something about a clean install only works.

I hate to do those, I have software programs for work that a tech needs to reinstall which does not make me a favorite for them..ha ha...

Could you be a little more specific on what the other stuff was? Plenty of people have been able to activate online.
