    I have been using DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink along with the instruction shown at the link below to back up my DVD's

    http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/reccomended.html

    I have only made 8 back ups so far but everytime it works great for me. No bad dvd's yet.

    My question is about step number [22]Deep Analysis.

    I have only been able to check the box one time.

    All the other times when I go to the quality setting tab I'm not able to check the box for deep analysis.

    Can anyone tell me why?

    Deep analysis won't be available if there is no compression required for the movie.

    ROFL

    Sorry for asking such a stupid question.

    I'm going to do more searching and reading now. :)

    Thanks,

    Not a thing wrong with asking questions on the forum. That is why there is a Newbie forum. Sometimes a simple question is not that easy to answer. For example, I just assume that the Deep Analysis box is greyed out only when no compression is required. What about if just a very small amount of compression is needed, say it's at 98%. Is Deep Analysis available? I have never looked so the next time I burn a movie with just a little compression I will take a look.

    Not that you would need it. I don't use it unless I get below 75% or so. I'm just curious at what point it actually becomes available. I still assume it is activated when any amount of compression is used.

    It becomes active when any compression is needed even 99.9%.. I never use it really to be honest.. :)

    Thanks dakotadvd, and your welcome just include me in your will and we will be even ;-) LOL

    I tried it and got this:

    100% -> off
    99.9% -> off
    99.8% -> off
    99.7% -> off
    99.6% -> off
    99.5% -> on

    I started with 4464mb and added 1mb titles. I watched the compression number change. I selected backup after each addition and checked the quality settings. When I got to 99.5% the deep analysis feature "un-greyed"

    Your right!! My bad, but I dont think to many people get it to 99.9% any how.. LOL I knew it was available some where in the 99% range I guess I just assumed my bad!! :) Like I said I dont use it anyway. If I run into a larger movie that uses a lot of compression I use another proggy :)
