    Hello All,

I was told months ago that the Pioneer A07 would be available before the end of the year.

I just called them today and talked to one of their techs.

He said that they have not heard of a release date and does not think it will be out before the end of the year.
To call them yourself get their phone number at: pioneerelectronics.com

I will now purchase a Plextor PX-708A in black. I have read the reviews for it and they all really liked it.

It can also copy 8X on some 4X discs which will be cheaper when the 8 speed dics come out. The only downside is that while it can copy 8X DVD+R,it can only copy 4X DVD-R. For me, it doesn't matter since I have chosen the DVD+R/RW format.

If I wait any longer "BluRay" will be out.

    Take Care

Yeah, I guess waiting for a Blu Ray drive is worth it. But does anyone know how much it will be around?

    Praetor, that was funny.

I ordered my Plextor on Friday.

I just received an email saying it was shipped today.

I will let you all know how it works when it arrives.

I know they are working on 16X, but who really needs to burn a DVD in 3 1/2 minutes? It takes longer to rip and title the movie anyway, so the speed increase from 8 to 16 will be negligible. (My Theory at least)

This 7 minute Plextor is plenty fast enough for me and will keep me happy until BluRay finally comes out with a reasonable price.

I'm using Pioneers 4X drives at this time, but as the price drops on the newer faster drives said to be out soon, I prefer to have the fastest drive possible as long as record quality stays consistent, if speed is going kill quality then I'll choose to stay slower,we'll have to wait and see. Bring on the A016 (lol)!!!

    Hello Again,

Well, I got my Plextor PX-708A.

It was a breeze to setup and Windows XP recognized the drive within seconds.

I used the CD-R function and it worked flawlessly. 1 burn with Nero 6 and 1 using Musicmatch Jukebox. This Plextor cranks CD-Rs at 40X. Took just over 3 mins to burn a CD-R that was filled with music.

Have not yet had the time to use the DVD option.

About the questions as why get an 8 speed burner without the media.

If you remember, the 4 speed burners arrived ahead of their media. This is usually the case.

Also I have read reports that the 8X media is being made and will be available very soon.

Lastly, Plextor PX-708A's can burn 8 Speed on some 4X media. So it will be cheaper even when the more costly 8 Speed media is out.

So, why complain? Learn before posting.

    Puff,

I was referring to your comment on "What good is an 8X burner without 8X media."

Leave your negative postings out of here.

It just shows your ignorance of the subject and how low class you must be.

This thread is not about MEDIA.

Digibop! Keep the info on this drive coming! I was hoping to have mine by now but finances have conspired against it. What speeds/times have you been getting and with what media? How is the burn quality? Any compatability probs with standalones? Any probs with the 2MB buffer? I wanna know! I am red with envy! I need to burn vicariously through you until I get mine. Cheers.

    Nephilim,

I like to stick with brand name DVD+Rs.

I use Fuji, Imation, and Verbatim.

I don't have any 4X media yet, but this link should make any doubts about this burner disappear completely. It shows why the Plex
is a burner that can burn 8X on 4X media.

This alone is a good reason to pick one up.

Get one for your wife or girlfriend too LOL

    http://www.hardwarezoom.com/viewcontent.jsp?ReviewID=173

    Burn quality is EXCELLENT.

My home DVD player is an inexpensive
Apex AD-1500. It is 2 years old and plays the DVD+Rs wonderfully.

No problems with the 2MB buffer. This drive has "Buffer underrun Proof" technology, so while I usually use Nero 6, I'm sure the included Roxio Easy CD & DVD Creator 6 would works as well or they would not have included it.

    You gotta get this thing.

I'm not sure where your located, but I'm in Sunny So Cal, and here in the US you can get one shipped for just over $200

I hope this answers some questions.

If anyone needs more info write back.

Digibop, thanks for the info. I'm in Phoenix, AZ - not too far away! I've been using Fuji, but am getting low so I'll prob get a spindle of Ritek G04's. Does PlexTools Pro work with the 708 as far as DVD Info etc? Thanks again._X_X_X_X_X_[small]I don't see the glass as half empty or half full. I just want to know if anyone spit in it.[/small]
