Haven’t updated in a week, since not much really went on.

First up is a GT Review of Resident Evil 4, it’s coming on out PS2 with some extra features on top on a brilliant game. Can’t wait to get my hands on this, or rather, they get their hands on me. =(

    http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=1099

A Prince of Persia 3 trailer showing off some in-game combat (damn, those moves are even more stylish this time around), and cinematics.

    http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=1666

And new 187 Ride or Die trailers showing off the weapons and trailer, which has been in the news media limelight recently, something about violence.. uhmm… yeah. =P

    http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=1652

Huxley documentary! Well worth watching, lots of exciting in-game engine footage and cinematics made using the engine. As “usual”, next-gen graphics.

    http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=1774

Gamespy features and exclusive coverage of the world’s first, blowing-up-cars-with-lots-of-weapons-from-your-own-car-action-MMORPG!

    http://archive.gamespy.com/landing/autoassault/

STALKER DELAYED AGAIN?! This was announced around the time Half Life 2 had screenshots and it STILL hasn’t come out yet. Jesus, it looked ground-breaking then.. but now? Just another “next-gen photorealistic” shooter. Although this one has some amazing AI and cool RPG-like features…. But if they don’t release it soon they might not do well commercially.

'S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl' Not Coming In 2005

Posted by Rainier on Friday, July 08 @ 08:55:12 PDT

According to fan site Oblivion-Lost.com, a russian forum chat with GSC Game World's deputy director Anton Bolshakov relvealed that the oft delayed FPS S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl will not be making any appearance this year. "In two words, to sum up an ICQ chat: when the plot is fully implemented (it is being completed), the simulation will be finally tuned. This is what the team is doing right now. The game will certainly not come out this year."

That’s it for now, I’ll be back with more when there IS something worthy of more! =D

Hole lee… I haven’t updated in ages. This is probably due to my constant Guild Wars PvP playing, lack of anything good to update, AND that this month has been stale for the PC platform. =(

However, read on, I still have some goodies for ya.

New gameplay footage of Condemned, the fabulous (and violent) first person shooter on XBOX360! New footage is titled “Gameplay Cam 1” and “Gameplay Cam 2”

    http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=1654

Gamespy’s preview of Starship Troopers! Personally I can’t wait for this one, the trailers have already shown some intense bug-blowing combat. =D

    http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/starship-troopers/632362p1.html

“Developer demo” of the next Brothers in Arms installment, Earned In Blood! Hmm I hope I have enough blood for this. Needless to say, you have to watch this.

    http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=2026

Here’s some very impressive footage of the action RPG Titan Quest, which looks like it has next-gen graphics, awesome spell effects and RAG DOLL PHYSICS! n_n

    http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=1903

“GT Video Preview” of the controversial game 25 to Life. It’s shaping up to be a great shooter with lots of attention to balanced weapons (40+ realistic guns?! I’m in heaven! =D ) and customization. However, I think it’s only for the PS2 and XBOX. We may get a PC Port if it’s popular enough…

    http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=201

Gamespy’s Preview of Black…. I am orgasming over this game, I sincerely wish it gets a port to PC because PS2 controls just don’t suit me. One hell of a FPS.

    http://ps2.gamespy.com/playstation-2/black/633916p1.html

That seems to be it for now… Advent Rising on the 29th! That’s probably the only other game I’ll play this month. =P

To everyone's dismay, this thread is not dead yet. I just haven't had time to update it due to being incredible busy, and before that, vacation. Even Toiletman has to rest sometime!

Fable, Advent Rising, Sudeki and Dungeon Siege II reviews will be coming up soon.

    Not that anyone's interested.

I'll continue it just for you then, Geestar. =D

Here's a slightly longer than normal review of Fable for the PC.

Graphics: Word of advice, do not set shadows to max in graphical options or your game will mess up.

Being an XBOX game, I was afraid it would be a shoddy port with shoddy graphics. I was wrong. The game looks almost cutting-edge, with brilliant textures on the environments. The spell effects are gorgeous and over the top, and the melee combat is very well displayed, along with decapitating heads. Most of the “common NPC” skins will have variations of the same skin. For example, a Trader NPC will have variations of the same skin. The game looks slightly cartoony (which I’m sure no one will have a problem with). There are some slight graphical errors, but they are few and far in between.

Gameplay: Lots of talk about here. First I’ll review the “RPG elements” of the game, buying, trading, etc. Basically, you “level up” your character with “experience” gained from enemies and quests. This isn’t a cookie clutter RPG where there are meaningless stats, every increase in a particular stat shows a visible difference. By stats, I don’t mean the basic STR, VIT etc, but you get to level up various aspects. For example, if you wanted to become a Warrior Mage, you would level up your physique, magic power, and various spells that you would want to use. The trading system allows you to profit from buying low and selling high to different NPCs, but the profits are low and you’re better off doing quests or killing monsters. The game feels slightly like a MMORPG at times, but the overall feel of the gameplay is simple yet effective. There are basically three character types you can opt for (but the game allows you to mix and match), Warrior, Archer, and Mage. I’ve chosen a Berserk Warrior, a Warrior that uses Berserk primarily as his skill, and keeps on whacking till the enemy is dead. It’s pretty unbalanced, along with a handy skill called Multistrike, I kill bosses in two-three hits or so, and normal enemies in one hit. I’ve also added points into a stat that lets you attack faster.

Fable was supposed to be the “GTA of action RPGs.” It failed, the game feels linear and it IS linear. There aren’t as many sidequests as one might think, but they’re all unique. No repeated Fed-Ex quests.

The combat in Fable is extremely well-done. It might SEEM like a Hack N Slash button mashing action RPG, but when you try it, it’s not. (Unless you’re a Berserk Warrior like me, killing everything in 2 or 3 hits). The AI is no Far Cry, but they will block, chase, and retreat and attack with ranged weapons.

The introductory part of the game may seem a tad boring, but once you “graduate” from the Guild of Heroes, the fun starts.

The much talked-about Good/Evil system changes the way your character acts and looks, but does not change the gameplay much; small changes such as “killing a good guy” or “killing a bad guy”. A waste of potential.

Storyline: The game falls short here. The storyline is clichéd, slightly corny, and generally broken. One moment your sister can have her eyes gauged out, the next moment it’s happy sunshine time. The common NPCs have many phrases, but they talk so much that some phrases are repeated over, and over again. The cutscenes are mostly boring and skippable.

Voice acting: Voice acting is uneven. Mostly it’s brilliant, sometimes bearable, and the rare moment where it’s shoddy. Some of the cutscenes re-use phrases, so some NPCs can go from an English accent to a Scottish accent. Talking of English accents, the game is full of them and they sound forced (but they’re not). If you’re annoyed by English accents, turn off the sound.

From now on, I'm going to only post the best of the best, and the most interesting news. STARSHIP TROOPERS DEMO OUT!

High-res "GC 2005 Trailer" showing a newly-veiled game, the Source-powered fantasy FPS of Might and Magic. It looks like it wants to compete directly with Project Offset, and after watching the trailer, it definitely has a chance. In case you haven't heard of Project Offset: www.projectoffset.com Prepared to be stunned.

    Trailer: http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=2089

A less well-known action RPG that is in due course of being released, is "The Witcher". Based on the popular fantasy series, this RPG is aiming to be the BEST of 2005/2006. Here is the "GC 2005 Combat Trailer" showing off the realistic and in-depth combat styles and action. Judging by past trailers and articles, the developers are giving this game their all, and I'm sure it WILL have a chance of achieving the title.

Probably not, this generation's consoles are at the end of their lifespans anyway. But God of War II IS planned, probably a PS3 exclusive.

Basically, I had 2 problems with it.

    1) Buggy sound.
    2) Laggy mouse control.

The graphics weren't anything special, but I think the game focuses on MASS bug killings, and therefore the graphics do not need to be special. But it's a demo, so I didn't expect Half Life 2 quality. =D

P.S. Shotgun seems to be the only useful weapon in this game. There's a Super Shotgun by a deadbody in the exploded cargo ship. If you don't get that, you're dead. =P

“Most Anticipated XBOX360 Games”, no need to tell you this is a must-watch, even if you hate Bill Gate’s empire.

    http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=2111

Bet On Soldier DEMO released! It weighs in at about half a GB, so be ready for some hefty downloading. I’ve played the demo, and if your machine ran Half Life 2 decently, it will run this game with minor hiccups. (I’m assuming the engine isn’t optimized yet)

“Trailer” of the pen and paper RPG that started it all, now in computer form, give a WARRRRM WELCOME TO DUNGEON & DRAGONS ONLINE! For MMORPGers that are planning (in the future, or the present) to invest their time in a solid MMORPG that will have responsible developers, look no further. This is THE MMORPG to play, and the devs are in the process of making this game the perfect MMORPG. Every minute detail of D&D Online will be tweaked to perfection if necessary. Without further ado, enjoy.

Check out this “Trailer” of a new PS2 game, titled “Ninja Breadman.” God, he’s so cute.

Finally, to top this update off, a review of Advent Rising.

How far I am into the game: First few levels, maybe 10%

I’ve decided to write a review on Advent Rising this far early into the game because I feel as though I already know this review will not change even if I finish the game.

Graphics: Don’t expect anything of the textures. Even though this is an XBOX game, the environments often look extremely low-detailed and much like PS1-graphics. There are numerous graphical bugs that happen often enough to plague gameplay; the draw distance is extremely shoddy, decorations such as plants or trees often “pop up” only when you’re practically face-to-face. It’s VERY visible and ends up affecting the fun severely. At least the choppy frame rate problem on the XBOX seems to be fixed. Character models are interested and well-designed, especially the alien troopers, but again, low-detailed and much like early PS2 game graphics. The effects however, are good enough to make you wonder how a graphics engine could have such low detailed environments yet brilliant effects. This game is FULL of explosions, and the engine does them very well. Shimmering explosions, fiery explosions, it looks fantastic especially in chaotic moments, which this game is full of. Even then, it’s not enough to make you forget about the environment AROUND the effects. =(

Gameplay: The control system on the PC may be confusing at first, but the learning curve is only 10 – 20 minutes. The lockon system is extremely sensitive to mouse movement, and personally I found it easier just to manual aim. Your character, Gideon, is very agile. You can dodge, jump, crouch and perform “evasive maneuvers”, and the animations are all stylish.

Each gun has a leveling system. The more you use them, the higher the level. Each level grants either an “unlock” in an alternative fire mode, or higher damage and accuracy. You can dual wield any weapon, pair rocket launchers with rocket launchers, or pair two rapid fire weapons together, your choice. Make no mistake about it, this IS a run and gun game, and provides plenty of ammo for you to chew through.

The “objectives” and levels though leaves something to be desired. Right now, in the first few levels, there has already been a few “defend this area until something happens” circumstances, and I can only predict the game will plonk more down in later levels. But don’t mistake it to be repetitive, this game is FUN when you get down to blasting those alien freaks and while explosions dance around you.

Sound: The voice-acting is done by star talent, and apart from the fact that Gideon sounds like a five year old, it’s satisfactory. Not excellent, satisfactory. I would’ve expected more, because the voiceovers sound as if though they’ve been done by normal folks. The weapon sounds are done very well, alien weapons have that “I’m going to probe you laser blast” sound, while the human weapons sound realistic but futuristic. Unlike other games, explosions are basically required for getting through areas, and many times your screen will be shaking for minutes, while you blow that alien scum away, while never tiring of the noise.

Storyline: Another let down. The story tries to be tongue-in-cheek while serious. Not a good combination, not a good story. Early on you’re forced to make a major decision that changes your storyline, and for that I applaud the game. At least it doesn’t leave it till the last moment, so there’s no point of replaying the game.

Conclusion: To be honest, Advent Rising was disappointing, even though I’m this early into the game. I expected “something better” of every aspect of the game, and what I got was a let down. The graphics aren’t up to standard, the voiceacting isn’t anything special, and the gameplay, while it has its intense fun-filled moments, is plagued by graphical bugs. I’m sure once I get my uber powers, my disappointment will still be the same. The much hyped storyline, written by Scott Orson Card quite frankly, is mediocre. I’m sure once I get my uber superpowers, they won’t help lift my disappointment. If this is the quality of his books, then I don’t know why he’s so successful. Advent Rising is meant to be a trilogy. I hope Advent Rising 2 will change and improve on this game’s problems.

Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to introduce Getting Up, a new PS2 game. If you haven’t heard of it already, it’s a gangster-brawler-spraying-graffiti game, while done in style. Here are some trailers for you to check out, with various descriptions. Enjoy.

    http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=1438

To keep the gangsta theme yo, we’re going to check this shizz out. Nizzle my fizzle… whatever. 50 Cent: Bulletproof. Now I KNOW what you’re thinking: “50 Cent game? Dawg, that gonna suck.”

The trailers MAY prove you wrong. Personally I think you brain is right. Check them out:

    http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=1533

    Now, for the real deal.

The next “chapter” in Brothers In Arms, Earned In Blood. This “Brotherhood & Squadmates” trailer shows you how you WILL care. Thing is, I didn’t really get a grasp of their personalities in the last game. Let’s hope they improve on this.

The Outfit “trailer” and “trailer 2”, the WWII UNREALISTIC action game for XBOX 360. Looks like a helluva loada fun. First trailer has no audio, so don’t bash in your speakers. =)

    http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=1765

The next GTA of XBOX 360, Saint’s Row. Must watch. No audio. Trailer titled simply, “Gameplay”.

Now for Black… if you’ve read my previous Game Updates, I posted a few articles. This is shaping up to be one of the best console FPSes, and this trailer shows just how good it’s aiming to be. It ALMOST looks like a next-gen game, but somehow it’s on the PS2/XBOX. Watch the “trailer” and gape.

    http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=2130

Next up is the game-adaption based on the latest zombiefest, Land of the Dead. Now film games in general have been less than subpar, but this looks like one of those rare games that will break this curse, much like Chronicles of Riddick did. Enjoy the bloody carnage of zombie headshotting, trailer titled “trailer”.

    That's all for now!

Fresh day, fresh update! Lots of interesting stuff here… as usual. =P

“Creature Fight” in Black & White 2. But you already know how this trailer is a must-watch. n_n

    http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=156

Another “TGS Presentation” trailer of the stunning game, Gears of War. Ever since the XBOX360 release date got announced, this game has been hyped to the stars. And it looks like it can live up to the hype. Gear up people! (ROFLMAO, crappy pun #1) There is a lot of talking though, but the clips are worth bearing the boring.

    http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=1650

And now, one of our feature presentations, MGS4: Guns of the Patriots “TGS 2K5 Trailer – GameMeca Cam”, need I tell you to watch this?

    http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=1743

New Quake IV trailers, “Vehicles” and “Multiplayer”!

    http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=1639

WarDevil “Trailer 3”. This game is to be made into a short movie as well as a cinematic game experience. It’s still clouded mysteriously and not much has been revealed, but it looked stunning 2 years ago and it still is now. High-profile to the max.

    http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=1379

CoD 2, “Gameplay 2” trailer. This build is look a lot more “stable and smoother” than the last trailers, and in high quality too!

    http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=1637

Devil May Cry FOUR, yes, that’s FOUR for the PS3. “TGS 2K5 CAM trailer”, and Dante’s back, even cooler than before.

    http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=1671

A SEGA published game, newly unveiled for the XBOX360! Chromehounds seems to be the next-big thing in mecha games. Right on time too, since there hasn’t been any groundbreaking mecha games for eons. See for yourself.

    http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=2161

Time to wrap up for today!
