I took some film of my family on holiday and played it back on my camera no problems, i've transfered the file to my computer running xp home sp2 and i get an error stating the file format is unrecognised or i don't have the codec for the file, although other files have played with no problem......is there a program about that might be able to correct the problem or is this file just corrupt?

Drag the AVI on to GSpot and try to see which codec it needs and if it's installed on the PC.
In the example, the codec is XviD and it's installed.
You can also try to play the file using the buttons.
