There seems to be a lot of software available where you can split/merge various types of avi's. However, it seems you always have to re-encode them. Is it possible to chop up a divx/xvid file and save the chopped version as is - ie, at the same encoding? I think Virtualdub can do it (?) but it seems to have trouble opening alot of these file types. I hope that makes some kind of sense!

    Thanks in advance

For avi's VDub should work fine, that is as long as they don't use VBR mp3 audio. Without re-encoding though you can only cut on I frames.
