Is there any way to get a Divx movie with Ac3 sound to work with subRip subtitles, or do I have to extract the audio from the avi-file and decode it to mp3 or wav?, and if so, how do I do that..

Audio doesn't have absolutely anything to do with subtitles. If you have SubRip subs, they work exactly like they work with any other video, whether DivX or XviD, whether MP3 audio or AC3 audio.

Ok, but how do I make the subs to play together with the movie. I've tried to mux them together with Submux (Vobsub 2.18 package..) and it doesn´t work...

Install DirectVobSub -- within the VobSub package. Then copy the subtitle file into same directory where your AVI is with same name, but different extension. Something like this:

    c:\movie name.avi
    c:\movie name.srt

...then simply use some normal video player, such as Windows Media Player v6.4.
